About Expert Saree & Lehenga Draping
The secret to a perfect drape isn’t just good pinning; it’s the initial structure and ironing. I focus on creating crisp, flat pleats for heavy Kanjeevarams so the saree never feels bulky or uncomfortable. For lehengas, I make sure the dupatta is pinned securely enough that you can move, sit, and dance all night without once worrying about it slipping.
Why Professional Draping Matters
A Kanjeevaram is heavy, and getting it to sit perfectly across your curves is an art. If the pleats aren't ironed and pinned correctly, the saree can overwhelm your silhouette. My process starts with proper layering and securing the fabric so that the Zari work is displayed at its best, while keeping the weight balanced so you don't feel dragged down.
Handling Your Lehenga
For modern receptions, lehengas are the go-to. Whether it's a single or double dupatta drape, I ensure the pinning allows for natural movement. You shouldn't feel like you're wrapped in a rigid costume; you should feel like yourself, just more polished. I pay special attention to the waist and shoulder pinning, as these are the main friction points when you are dancing or mingling with guests.
My Process
- Preparation: I handle the ironing and basic prep for your silk sarees before the final drape.
- Comfort First: I always ask, "Neevu ankondange idiya?" (Is it how you imagined?) because if you aren't comfortable, you won't feel beautiful.
- Longevity: From the Muhurtham rituals where you have to sit for hours to long reception nights, I use safety-pinning techniques that keep your outfit intact for 6+ hours without causing any fabric damage.
