The response to our MFA Second Division trials was massive, with over 80 players showing up to compete for a few coveted spots. This is the level of competition you will face and the community you can join.
Day two of trials is where the pressure mounts. After narrowing down from over 80 players, we intensify the drills and match play to see who truly has the grit to advance. The journey to selection is tough, but it's worth it.
From coach briefings to intense on-field scrimmages, our trial days are packed with action. We evaluate players on their technical skills, tactical understanding, and how they perform under pressure.
About The Trial Experience: Show Us Your Grit
It isn't just about scoring goals. When you step onto the pitch for an SMFA trial, our coaches are watching your positioning, your response to instruction, and how you recover after losing possession. Expect a rigorous 20-minute slot where you rotate through technical drills before showing your worth in a 7v7 or 9v9 game. We assess discipline and intent as much as raw speed or skill.
What to Expect
Trials at SMFA are no timepass. Whether you are aiming for our U-14 squad or looking to break into the MFA Second Division senior team, the process is designed to test your mental and physical limits.
We structure our assessment in two ways:
- Scheduled Trial Days: These are high-volume events. You get a guaranteed 15 to 20 minutes of on-field time rotating through technical drills like rondos or passing grids, followed by a short-sided game to see how you fit in a temporary team structure.
- Walk-in Batch Assessments: This is for players who want a deeper look. You train alongside our regular academy batch for 60 to 90 minutes. This allows our Head Coach to see how you perform under fatigue and how you handle our specific tactical drills.
The Selection Process
We look for more than just a good touch. Our 3-4 member coaching panel evaluates players based on:
- Technical Proficiency: Basic football skills and directional first touch.
- Tactical Awareness: Understanding of game situations and movement.
- Grit: How you react when the pressure is on or when you lose the ball.
Practical Details
- Eligibility: Trials are open to Mumbai-based players. Birth year rules apply strictly for age-category teams.
- Gear: Bring your own kit and boots. Don't forget your own water bottle as we emphasize responsibility.
- Feedback: You will receive a clear Yes or No verdict within 48 hours for scheduled trials, or immediate feedback if you opt for a walk-in assessment.
