Don't just unroll the grass and call it a day. I spend half the time on surface preparation—cleaning, leveling, and checking for dampness—before the turf ever hits the ground. If the base isn't solid, the grass will lift or trip you up within a month. I use professional-grade synthetic rubber adhesive and seaming tape so it stays down even in rain or high wind.
You want the look of a lawn without the watering, mowing, or mud. That is where synthetic turf works best, but only if it is installed right. I work with materials ranging from standard 25mm to premium 45mm pile heights. If you are covering a small balcony in Delhi, a 25mm height works fine. If you want a soft, plush lawn for a rooftop or garden, we go for the 45mm four-tone grass that looks like real fescue.
The Installation Process
- Surface Prep: Whether it is concrete, tile, or old wood, I start by sweeping and leveling. If there is a drainage issue, we fix that first so water does not pool under the turf.
- Invisible Seaming: When covering large areas, you cannot have visible gaps or raised seams. I use heavy-duty seaming tape and synthetic rubber adhesives to join rolls, making the transition seamless.
- Edging and Finishing: Grass that lifts at the edges looks messy. I secure the perimeter using pinning or gluing, then use white marble chips or pebbles to create a clean border. Finally, I power-brush the blades so they stand upright, not flat.
