The Inner Path: Meditation and Spiritual Practice
This is not a typical retreat. We guide you through traditional satsang, Vedic puja, and daily meditation to quiet the mind and deepen your connection to the Self.
A group of students and I begin the day with silent meditation, facing the sunrise at our Amboli ashram. This practice, part of our ongoing yoga retreats, helps cultivate inner peace and awareness.
A beautiful candlelit ceremony at our Vidya Peetham. Such rituals are an integral part of Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion, helping to open the heart and focus the mind.
Performing Aarti, the ceremony of light, is a central part of our evening satsang. The flame represents the light of knowledge dispelling the darkness of ignorance.
Karma Yoga, the path of selfless service, is part of our daily life. Here, students prepare a traditional rangoli, a sacred art form, for a Devi Puja ceremony at the Amboli ashram.

The intricate details of a lotus flower are carefully created with colored powders. This act of creation is a meditation in itself, preparing the space and the mind for worship.

Students work together to complete the sacred geometry of the yantra for our Devi Puja. This collaborative effort fosters a sense of community and shared purpose.

About The Inner Path: Meditation & Spiritual Practice
Living here involves a structured routine that will be a significant shift from your daily life. We rise at 5:20 AM for silent meditation and every guest participates in one hour of daily karma yoga, such as gardening or preparing meals. This discipline is the foundation of our practice, helping you detach from external noise and fully immerse yourself in the present moment.
Our approach to meditation and spiritual practice is rooted in the traditional Sivananda lineage, where yoga is a method for self-knowledge rather than a physical workout. We believe the path to inner peace requires a balance of action and stillness.
Daily Sadhana
Your day at our Amboli ashram follows a precise rhythm. We begin with early morning meditation, followed by two 90-minute Hatha yoga sessions. The practice is complemented by daily satsang, where we gather for chanting and spiritual discourse. These sessions are designed to purify the mind and elevate your energy, consistent with the five points of yoga: asana, pranayama, savasana, sattvic diet, and positive thinking.
Vedic Traditions & Puja
Beyond postures, we incorporate traditional Vedic rituals into our practice. You will see us perform regular pujas and aarti ceremonies. These are not merely decorative rituals; they are a central component of Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion. These acts of worship, such as creating intricate rangoli or yantras, serve as a moving meditation, focusing the mind and opening the heart.
The Ashram Environment
Life in the ashram is simple and intentionally stripped of modern conveniences. There is no air conditioning or television here. You will eat two simple, lacto-vegetarian meals a day, prepared without spices. While this discipline may be challenging at first, it creates the necessary space to step away from your habits and observe the mind clearly. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, you are here to learn the science of the Self.
