The Art & Soul of Flamenco
Flamenco is more than just steps. It is a language of the soul, a rhythmic conversation, and a way to connect with your true self. Whether you are curious about the basics or looking to dive into technical footwork, join me to explore the vibrant history and emotional depth of this Andalusian art form.
To dance is a divine feeling, especially when you can inspire the next generation. This portrait captures the passion I feel for the art form, a feeling I aim to plant as a seed in young minds. Using props like the 'abanico' or fan, I share the history and grace of Flamenco with authenticity.
This is a poster from a performance I did in Seville, the heart of Flamenco. Sharing a 'tablao' stage with such incredible artists in Spain was an honor and reflects the authentic, professional level of artistry I bring back to my students in India. This is the real, pure Flamenco experience.
A sign I spotted on a street in Andalusia that says it all: "Cuando el cuerpo baila la mente olvida" or "When the body dances, the mind forgets." This is the soul of my teaching. Flamenco is my home, and I strive to share its profound ability to bring you into the present moment.
About The Art & Soul of Flamenco
Flamenco is about rhythm and technique, but it starts with understanding the 'compas', the heartbeat of the music. Whether we are drilling footwork in a studio in Khar or connecting via Zoom, I focus on building your foundation so you can dance with confidence and express yourself truly, without needing to worry about the steps.
Many people think you need years of dance experience to start, but that is a myth. My approach is simple: I break down the complexity of Andalusian rhythms so they become second nature to you. We start with the basics, focusing on posture, hand movements (manos), and arm positioning (brazos), before moving into the specific styles like Sevillanas or Bulerías.
For those in Mumbai, I host in-person sessions at studios in Khar and Santacruz, where we have the space to work on full-body movement and technique. If you are joining from elsewhere, my online courses use a structured syllabus designed for virtual learning, complete with recordings so you never miss a beat.
I also believe in technical rigour. We dedicate time to Zapateado (footwork) and Vueltas (turns) to ensure your body is strong and safe for the long term. This is not about memorizing a routine for a few weeks; it is about building a relationship with the music. If you have been waiting for a sign to start your Flamenco journey, this is it. Let's get to work and find your own dance story.
