Majestic Birds of India: Wildlife Photography Portfolio
Patience meets perspective. I capture the quiet, fleeting moments of Indian birdlife—from the shy Grey Francolin to the vibrant Kingfisher—in their natural habitats.
A curious Warbling White-eye peeks out from behind a bright red flower in Binsar. Its direct gaze and the striking color contrast make this a personal favorite, capturing the inquisitive nature of these small birds.
The same Warbling White-eye, now slightly turned, appears to be tasting the nectar. This shot shows a moment of natural feeding behavior, a key focus of my bird photography.
A yellow Oriental White-eye perched beside a fluffy red powder-puff flower in Manali. The composition highlights the complementary colors and delicate interaction between bird and flora.
A brilliant yellow Eurasian Golden Oriole sings from a branch. The open beak and rich color against the dark background create a striking portrait of this beautiful songbird.
A Lesser Yellownape, a type of woodpecker, forages for food on a cluster of berries in Binsar. The photograph captures its unique yellow crest and focused, energetic posture.
An Indian Spot-billed Duck spreads its wings in the water, revealing the iridescent green speculum feathers. This is a display of strength and beauty, captured at a lake in Lucknow.
A Blue-eared Kingfisher, seen from behind, preens its stunning blue and orange feathers. This image focuses on the texture and color patterns of the bird in a moment of quiet self-care.
A Grey-headed Swamphen stands tall among the reeds in a Lucknow wetland. Its striking purple-blue plumage and bright red bill stand out against the green, showcasing the vivid colors found in nature.
A Wattled Jacana carefully navigates the swampy terrain in Lucknow. This image highlights its incredibly long toes, an adaptation that allows it to walk on floating vegetation.
A Bronze-winged Jacana walks through a field of purple water hyacinths. The composition creates a beautiful tapestry of color, with the bird's dark body contrasting against the soft floral background.
About Majestic Birds of India
When you see these photos, remember that bird behaviour photography is rarely about waiting for the bird to look at the lens. It is about fieldcraft. I spend hours in locations like Binsar or Tal Chapar, often using my Canon 80D, observing how a bird interacts with its surroundings before taking the shot. If you want to move beyond snapshots, understanding that natural rhythm is the first thing we will cover during our field sessions.
Beyond the Click
Birding photography requires more than just a long lens. It is about understanding the environment and the subject. Whether it is a Lesser Yellownape foraging in the forests of Binsar or an Indian Spot-billed Duck on a wetland in Lucknow, each shot is the result of patience and positioning.
My approach focuses on:
- Fieldcraft: Learning how to approach subjects without disturbing them. This is the difference between a fleeting glimpse and a sharp portrait.
- Light and Timing: I chase the golden hour light to bring out the natural colours and textures of plumage.
- Gear Mastery: I teach how to use manual mode on your DSLR or Pro Mode on your smartphone, ensuring your gear works for you, not against you.
Where I Shoot
My base is in Gurugram, but I frequently lead photo walks in major NCR biodiversity hubs like Sultanpur, Aravali Biodiversity Park, and Okhla Bird Sanctuary. I also travel for outstation expeditions to places like Rajasthan and the Himalayan belts, documenting species like the Great Grey Shrike in their wild, arid homes.
If you are looking to improve your own wildlife photography, I offer 1-on-1 field mentorship sessions where we practice bird spotting and macro composition in real time. We do not just talk theory; we get into the field, find the subjects, and analyze your shots on-site.

I am Santosh, a photographer based in Gurugram. I do not just take pictures of birds; I wait for them to reveal their character. My journey with a camera is my way of understanding the wild, and I love helping others find that same stillness.
