Authentic Guru-Shishya Parampara Music Classes in Bangalore
Step away from the noise and into the rhythm. At our Bangalore studio, we preserve the age-old tradition of Guru-Shishya parampara, offering intimate, guided learning for students of all ages.
A glimpse into our group class, where students practice compositions together. This session focuses on 'Nagada bols', which are specialized sounds produced on the left bass drum (bayan), highlighting the depth and variety of techniques we teach.
The Guru-Shishya relationship is central to our teaching. This video shows an intimate 'riyaaz' session where the guru provides live tabla accompaniment, offering immediate feedback and pushing the student to achieve greater precision and expression.
Music unites all ages at Sangeet Sadhana. This image captures the spirit of our school, where students from different generations come together to learn and perform, creating a supportive and inspiring environment for everyone's musical journey.
About The Guru-Shishya Parampara: Our Classes in Action
Learning in our Koramangala studio is physically and spiritually distinct from a standard music academy. We follow the traditional Baithak floor seating arrangement because it allows the Guru to observe subtle hand movements and correct posture immediately, which is impossible in a classroom setup with rows of chairs.
The Guru-Shishya parampara is not merely a pedagogical method; it is a lineage of knowledge transfer. When you join our classes, you are not just signing up for a fixed syllabus. You are entering a space where the rhythm of the Tabla or the nuance of a Raga is passed down through direct observation and repeated practice.
The Koramangala Environment
Our school operates out of 4th Block, Koramangala, with a focus on non-AC, traditional practice environments. We keep our batches intentionally small, typically between 4 to 8 students. This ensures that every student gets dedicated time for Riyaaz corrections. Whether you are learning vocal technique, Tabla, or instrumental music, this small-group structure ensures that the Guru can hear your notes and correct your 'bols' in real time.
Riyaaz and Discipline
We emphasize that true growth happens outside the classroom. Our curriculum includes 'sangat' training—teaching you how to listen and respond to other instrumentalists. This is essential for anyone interested in solo performance or accompaniment. We provide digital resources to support your home practice, but the heart of our training remains the in-person correction you receive during our weekly sessions.
Who Should Join
We welcome everyone from toddlers exploring their first swaras to working professionals looking to meditate through Raga Bhairav. If you are looking for a commercial, certification-heavy curriculum, our style may not be the right fit. However, if you are looking for a deep, long-term connection to Hindustani shastriya sangeet and the patience to master it, our doors are open.
