From Pixels to Paper: Illustrations & Sketches
Every idea starts as a whisper before it becomes a wall. Here is a look at the initial sketches and digital illustrations that pave the way for my larger installations and fine art pieces.
A video of me sketching digitally on my tablet. This is where many ideas begin, translating thoughts that can't be said out loud into lines and shapes, between pixels and patience.
A playful illustration for a coffee brand, showing that even Sunday cleaning is better with a good cup of coffee. This series captures the small, imperfectly perfect moments of daily life.
The initial concept sketch for a woven art installation, showing the side and front elevations. This is the first step in translating an idea from paper to a three-dimensional structure.
An illustration for Hav' Coffee, capturing the simple joy of a bike ride with a friend and a coffee in hand. These illustrations celebrate the good moods sponsored by coffee.
Part of the coffee illustration series, this character hums a tune while handling deliveries. It's about finding joy in the everyday hustle, powered by coffee.
This illustration depicts a quiet, personal moment: enjoying a coffee and a pastry alone at a small cafe table. It's a celebration of the simple, peaceful rituals in life.
An illustration of a customer and barista sharing a "cheers" with their coffee cups. This series aims to capture the sense of community and connection found in a local coffee shop.
A video of me working on the coffee-themed illustrations, a moment where the left brain switches off and the right brain takes over. This is where the creative flow begins.
A detailed technical sketch for an art installation, showing the specifics of the bracket and assembly. This is the bridge between the artistic vision and the practical execution.
A concept sketch for a mixed-media floral installation, noting the different materials to be used, from wooden beads and hand-painted MDF to cotton thread work.
About From Pixels to Paper: Illustrations & Sketches
When I work on commissions, these initial sketches are the map we use to find our direction. Whether I am drafting a layout for a large-scale mural or finalizing a character design for a brand, we always start here. This process keeps the final execution grounded and ensures we have a shared vision before the heavy painting begins.
Before a brush touches the wall or a canvas gets its first coat of gesso, there is usually a line. A simple, shaky line. My digital illustration practice is where I untangle the chaos. It serves two distinct purposes in my studio. First, it is a playground for character design and brand storytelling, like the work I created for the Hav Coffee series. These drawings allow me to experiment with mood and narrative without the permanence of paint.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, these sketches are the blueprints for my spatial projects. When a client approaches me for a custom installation or a complex wall mural, we do not jump straight to the surface. We start with technical drawings and mood boards. I map out the placement of every floral element, calculate the tension points for threadwork installations, and visualize how the art interacts with existing architectural features like arches and electrical points.
This technical rigour is what allows me to translate a fleeting feeling into a permanent fixture. Whether it is a grid-style wall art series or a large-scale façade mural, the paper or pixel stage is where the technical constraints meet my artistic intuition. It is where we catch mistakes before they become expensive problems. If you are looking for an illustration for your brand, or need a structured design plan before we commit to a site-specific mural, let's start with a sketch.
