Saree Draping Classes: Master the Art of Pleating
From Japan to Chennai, I teach students the science behind a flawless drape. Whether you want to master silk saree pleating or learn professional techniques for your own wardrobe, my workshops make the art of the saree easy and fun.
It was a joy teaching a personal class to my student from Japan. Here she is getting hands-on practice with steam ironing and setting pleats. It shows that the love for sarees has no boundaries.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my students succeed. This is a selfie with a student after a successful one-on-one saree draping session where she mastered the art of pre-pleating.
A one-on-one class with my student Haneesha from Kerala. I am guiding her hands-on as she learns to create and set the pallu pleats on a rich red silk saree.
About Global Students, Local Art
When I teach, we start with the science of the fabric. You won't just learn to wrap a saree; you will learn why Kanchipuram silk behaves differently than synthetic blends under a steam iron. Adhu thaan ennoda style (that’s my style). My classes focus on precision measurement and 'pre-pleating'—the secret to getting that sharp, consistent look in under ten minutes, even if you are dressing yourself for a long wedding function.
Why Learning the 'Science' Matters
Most people think draping is just about wrapping the fabric. Paatheenganna (if you see), it is about understanding how the pleats sit on your body. In my 1-on-1 masterclasses, we don't just drape; we do technical sessions on body contouring and steam ironing.
My Teaching Formats
- Online Look & Learn: Perfect if you are outside Chennai. I use Zoom to show you exactly how to handle pallu alignment and chest pleats. You get the recording for a few days to practice.
- Offline Group Workshops: We meet in Chennai or Coimbatore for a full-day intensive. We cover everything from box folding for travel to handling heavy silks without stress.
- 1-on-1 Masterclass: This is for those who want total focus. We spend 6 to 8 hours at my studio. We work on your height, your specific sarees, and your comfort level.
Every class includes tips on saree clips, safety pin gauges, and how to store your heavy Kanchipuram sarees so they last for years. It is an art, and I want you to enjoy it as much as I do.
