A Chic Pastel Retreat
Soft pastels meet smart design in this compact bedroom. We maximized every inch with integrated storage and a custom study nook to create a space that feels calm, organized, and truly yours.
This wide view shows the custom-built unit that combines a spacious wardrobe with a functional study desk. The two-tone design in dusty pink and grey creates a sophisticated yet youthful look, making the most of a compact area.
The entryway to the room sets a calm and minimalist tone. The clean lines of the pink wardrobe and door are complemented by a full-length mirror, which adds depth and functionality to the space.
This detailed view of the study nook shows the combination of open and closed storage. I used glass shelves for displaying decor and fluted glass cabinet doors to stylishly conceal clutter, all illuminated by warm under-cabinet lighting.
A close-up of the workspace, designed to be both practical and beautiful. The desk includes drawers for stationery, built-in power outlets for electronics, and enough surface area for a laptop and study materials.
The sleeping area is designed as a cozy corner for rest and relaxation. The bed features a tall, textured headboard and is framed by a simple nightstand, with soft Roman blinds on the window to control light.

About A Chic Pastel Retreat
In this project, I moved away from bulky, traditional furniture to create an integrated unit that combines a wardrobe with a study desk. By using a dusty pink and grey palette and installing hidden under-cabinet lighting, I managed to keep the small footprint feeling open and organized without sacrificing essential storage space.
In Mumbai, where space is a luxury, designing a bedroom requires a shift from standard layouts to smart, multi-functional design. For this pastel retreat, the goal was to avoid clutter while ensuring the room felt cohesive.
My Design Strategy
-
Integrated Zoning: Instead of placing a desk and wardrobe separately, I merged them into a single floor-to-ceiling unit. This creates a clean look and saves floor space. The study nook includes built-in power points and ergonomic lighting, ensuring it is a serious workspace, not just an afterthought.
-
Material Selection: I chose high-gloss finishes for the wardrobe doors to reflect light, making the room appear larger. The use of fluted glass cabinet doors adds texture and visual interest without making the room feel heavy.
-
Soft Color Palette: The dusty pink and grey tones aren’t just aesthetic choices. They create a calming, serene environment that is conducive to both study and rest, moving away from the typical over-stimulating bright colors often found in kids' rooms.
-
Layered Lighting: From the integrated LED strips under the study shelves to the soft ambient lighting in the headboard area, I focus on lighting that can be adjusted based on the time of day—bright for schoolwork, dim for relaxing.
This room isn't a showroom piece; it’s a practical, livable space designed for a real Mumbai home. Whether you need a similar layout for your own space or want to explore different themes, we can tailor the storage, lighting, and finishes to fit your exact requirements.
