Bedrooms Designed as Personal Retreats
A bedroom is more than a place to sleep; it is a sanctuary where the air feels softer. I design these spaces to be quiet escapes, woven together with emotion, soft textures, and the stories you hold dear.
This bedroom in a Dhaka residence is a perfect example of a cultured, cozy retreat. A classic four-poster bed is the centerpiece, complemented by custom furniture and art sourced from around the world. The stone flooring and soft lighting create a humble yet elegant vibe.
A bedroom in Calcutta opens directly onto a lush garden, blurring the line between indoors and out. The room is a calm oasis, with a beautiful wooden bed, a tufted leather bench, and a large abstract painting that adds a touch of modern energy.
This tranquil bedroom in Saratoga features a stunning four-poster bed set against a backdrop of warm, neutral tones. The vaulted wooden ceiling and large window add to the room's airy and spacious feel, creating a perfect retreat.
For Aditi Rao Hydari's home, the bedroom is a serene escape. A four-poster bed with light, airy curtains creates a dreamy focal point. The space is kept simple and elegant, with a focus on comfort and tranquility.
In Kangana Ranaut's bedroom, a white brick wall provides a rustic, textured backdrop for a classic four-poster bed. The design blends her Himachali roots with a modern aesthetic, creating a space that feels both grounded and light.
This cozy bedroom corner in the 'Inde Blue' project features a daybed layered with textured pillows and throws. The soft, muted color palette and simple, framed sketches on the wall create a calm and personal space for rest.
A study desk is placed by the window in this Calcutta bedroom, creating a perfect spot for reflection with a view of the garden. The mix of a vintage-style desk, a modern paper lantern, and patterned bedding gives the room a collected, eclectic feel.
This bedroom shows how a simple pattern on the headboard and wardrobe doors can add character to a space. The soft pink and green tones create a gentle, soothing atmosphere, perfect for a personal sanctuary.
About Bedrooms as Personal Retreats
I do not follow rigid rules when designing a bedroom. My focus is on layering, mixing vintage finds with custom-made furniture, adding heavy linen drapes, and choosing lighting that softens the mood. If you want a space that feels like a quiet exhale at the end of the day, we should talk about how to make it yours.
A bedroom should never be just a room with a bed. It is a sanctuary where you shed the noise of the day and return to yourself. In my practice, I move away from the clinical aesthetic and toward rooms that have a pulse. This means creating spaces that feel lived in, warm, and deeply personal.
When I design a bedroom, I look for a focal point, often a four-poster bed that anchors the room. From there, I build outward. We might use patterned cement tiles for the floor to bring in character, or lime plaster on the walls for a tactile finish that changes with the light. Fabrics are everything. I layer heavy linen or velvet drapes against crisp cotton bedspreads, often using materials from sources like Cottons & Satins to ensure the room feels grounded and authentic.
Lighting is the final, most crucial layer. I replace standard builder fixtures with statement chandeliers or vintage wall sconces, often from The Hesperus Store, to create a mood that is relaxed and intimate.
Every project starts with a conversation. I listen to your stories and the items you already cherish, whether it is an heirloom chest or a specific color palette that makes you feel at peace. Together, we blend these memories with fresh, comfortable layers to make a bedroom that is uniquely yours.

I design spaces that hold your memories, not just pretty rooms for display. My goal is to make every bedroom a quiet escape that feels deeply personal, layering textures and light until the room breathes with your own rhythm.
