About Hindustani & Classical Vocal Training
Our vocal training is built on the traditional guru-shishya model, meaning your 45 to 60-minute weekly sessions are always one-on-one. You practice with an electronic tanpura and live harmonium accompaniment in our sound-treated studio, ensuring that every pitch correction and breath technique is addressed immediately by your instructor rather than lost in a group setting.
At Rhythms Group, we believe that the journey into Indian classical music requires both discipline and individual attention. Whether you are aiming to perform on stage or simply want to find your own voice, our curriculum is structured to support your unique goals.
The Curriculum
We offer two primary paths for our vocal students. The Hindustani Classical track focuses on the fundamentals: sargam, alankars, and bandish. This is the bedrock for any serious singer and provides the technical discipline required for Gandharva Mahavidyalaya exam preparation. Alternatively, our Light Music and Bollywood track is designed for those who want to perform their favorite songs with professional technique.
Why One-on-One Matters
In a group setting, it is easy to hide mistakes. Here, the focus is entirely on your development. Your teacher works with you on specific vocal markers, from breath control to the nuances of raga application. We use standard double-reed harmoniums during these sessions to help you develop your ear and pitch accuracy, ensuring you understand the mechanics of what you are singing.
Beyond the Classroom
Music is meant to be shared. We provide a guaranteed slot in our quarterly internal jam sessions for all our vocal students. This is where you get to test your progress, perform in front of an audience, and learn to handle the stage. For students looking to take their craft further, our instructors also guide you through the transition from casual singing to the professional habits needed for voice modulation and stage performance.
