Interactive Hands-on Repair Workshops for Kids
We're replacing screen time with tinker time. Join our live, guided workshops where kids learn to diagnose, disassemble, and fix their own gadgets, clothes, and bicycles.
(Hero Media) Nothing makes us happier than hearing from our students. Listen to these young repair champions talk about everything they have learned, from fixing their own bicycles and cleaning shower heads to understanding electronics and mending clothes. Their confidence says it all.
Here, one of our expert mentors guides a young learner through the process of troubleshooting a laptop. Our sessions focus on providing step by step guidance, ensuring every child understands the core concepts of gadget repair and maintenance.
Getting your hands dirty is part of the fun. In our bicycle repair module, kids learn practical skills like fixing a flat tire, adjusting brakes, and cleaning the chain, all while working together with our experienced mentors.
It is not just about fixing, it is about caring for the things we love. This young participant is carefully learning hand sewing techniques to mend his favorite stuffed toy, a skill that teaches patience and the value of preservation.
This is what our online classroom looks like. In this live Google Meet session, we are teaching creative mending techniques for old jeans. Our interactive format allows every child to follow along, ask questions, and share their progress right from home.
A picture is worth a thousand words. This simple before and after shot shows how a clogged shower head can be easily cleaned to work like new. It is one of the many practical home maintenance skills we teach in our Tinker Kinder program.
Learning is a community activity. Here, our mentor Ashok Urs is surrounded by curious young minds during a bookbinding workshop. We create a supportive and engaging atmosphere where children feel comfortable exploring, asking questions, and learning together.
Watch the moment of discovery as a young student uses a multimeter to test the continuity of an electric kettle's power cord. Our home electrics module is all about making complex ideas simple and giving kids the confidence to diagnose problems themselves.
About Featured
These sessions are not passive demonstrations—they are active, hands-on workshops. You will need to set your child up with a basic toolkit, such as a screwdriver and pliers, and ensure they have the specific item they want to work on nearby. Our mentors guide them via Google Meet in small, interactive groups, so they can show their progress on camera, ask for help, and troubleshoot right alongside other young tinkerers.
How Our Workshops Work
We keep things real. Whether you join our 'Tinker Kinder' multi-session course or a single 'Tinker Time' workshop, the goal isn't just to fix the object—it's to fix the mindset. We want kids to stop seeing broken items as trash and start seeing them as puzzles waiting to be solved.
The Learning Experience Our online classrooms on Google Meet feel like a shared makerspace. You’ll find:
- Small Batches (10-15 kids): This ensures our mentors can actually see what your child is doing, troubleshoot their specific circuit board or jammed zipper, and offer real-time guidance.
- No Judgment Zones: If an electrical circuit doesn't close or a bike brake stays loose, that's part of the process. We celebrate the attempt as much as the success.
- Skill-Specific Tracks: We break down complex tasks like laptop fan cleaning, circuit troubleshooting, or darning a hole in a favorite pair of jeans into manageable, age-appropriate steps.
What You Need
Because these are remote workshops, we rely on a few basics from your end:
- A Reliable Device: A stable internet connection and a camera so we can see the work.
- Basic Tools: A standard household toolkit (screwdrivers, pliers, testers) is essential. We provide the expertise and the digital handouts; you provide the workshop floor.
- The 'Broken' Item: Whether it's a bicycle with a loose chain, a lamp that won't turn on, or a t-shirt that needs patching, having the object in front of the child is what makes the learning stick.
We’re here to help build a generation of fixers. If you’re ready to get your hands dirty, grab a spot in our upcoming batch.
Repair Cafe Collective
We’re a collective of teachers, makers, and parents who believe that knowing how to fix things is a fundamental life skill. We started this movement because we're tired of seeing good stuff thrown away, and we want to help kids gain the confidence to repair, maintain, and care for their own things.
