About Community Repair Workshops
What We're About
We’re just folks who love fixing stuff. At our workshops, it’s not about handing things over - you roll up your sleeves and work alongside us. Whether you’re a total beginner or someone who’s always tinkering, you’ll fit right in. We call it “Repair Maadi!” (Just Fix It!) because we believe everyone can learn, and sometimes you just have to give it a go.
How Our Community Repair Workshops Work
- Bring in anything from your home that’s seen better days - a mixer, a torn shirt, a squeaky bike, whatever.
- We set up collaborative fixing sessions in neighbourhood spaces. You’ll find basic tools ready and volunteer mentors there to guide you.
- The vibe is super chill. Try, mess up, try again. Sometimes things can’t be fixed and that’s cool - main thing is you learn.
What You Can Mend
- Everyday stuff: toasters, headphones, lamps, iron boxes. Want to try DIY electronics repair? We’ll walk you through it.
- Got textile troubles? Join our textile mending workshop - hand sewing, patching, darning. No fancy equipment needed.
- Bicycles too. Bring your own, learn how to keep it happy.
- Odds and ends: toys, bags, small furniture, even books.
Who Shows Up?
Everybody. Kids (with a guardian), parents, singles, grandparents. It’s a mixed bunch, all ages, just people wanting to learn and hang out.
Why We Do It
We care about stuff, but mostly we care about people learning together. It’s more than fixing - it’s about confidence, sharing skills, and keeping things out of the trash.

My Story
We’re Repair Cafe Collective – not just one person, but a whole mix of teachers, techies, artists, parents, and more. We got tired of seeing stuff tossed out, so we started saying 'Don't throw, FIX.' Now, we run Repair Cafes across India – Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, shouting 'Repair Maadi!' (Do the repair!). The best part? Watching folks light up when they fix their old toy or grandma’s skirt. It’s messy, fun, and all about connecting. Everyone’s welcome.
My Work
DIY Repair Workshops & Tinker Kinder - We host DIY repair workshops and Tinker Kinder sessions for kids, teaching hands-on fixing skills.
Community Repair Cafes - Bring your broken stuff – toys, clothes, gadgets – and our mentors help you repair it yourself.
Learning & Experimenting - No judgment here. We learn together, try, fail, and sometimes things stay broken. That’s okay too.
Skills You’ll Pick Up - From bicycle maintenance basics to laptop troubleshooting and stitching, you’ll surprise yourself.
Culture of Care - We run Repair Walks, advocate for right to repair, refurbish wheelchairs, and create storybooks for kids.
