About Champions of the Show Ring
Show prep is a 24/7 job, not just a day on the field. Your dog does not just need to look perfect; they need to stay steady while judges touch them, ignore distractions from other dogs, and trot at the exact speed required for their breed. It takes weeks of conditioning, focusing on stacking, gaiting, and desensitizing, to get that confident show ring presence.
Success in the show ring relies on a mix of genetics and disciplined training. When we prepare a dog for KCI events, we work on three core pillars:
Core Training Modules
- Stacking (Posture): We teach the dog to hold the perfect pose for extended periods. This is critical for showing the dog's structure to the judges. We cover both free-stacking and hand-stacking methods.
- Gaiting (Movement): We train the dog to trot at the correct speed on the left side of the handler. This showcases the dog's movement and fluidity effectively.
- Ring Presence: We desensitize your dog to being touched by strangers, including teeth checks and muscle inspection.
Beyond technical skills, we focus on distraction proofing. A show environment is chaotic, with loud noises and other dogs everywhere. We ensure your dog remains focused solely on you, the handler. Our 4-week residential boarding and training program in Haveri includes full conditioning, where we maintain muscle tone and ideal weight, ensuring your dog looks their absolute best on the big day. We also provide intensive handover sessions to teach you the specific hand signals and voice modulation needed to succeed in the ring.
