Unique Engraving Projects: Hand-Etched Keepsakes
Have an object you want to make truly yours? From kitchen knives and Zippos to wooden cheeseboards, I hand-engrave everything to create one-of-a-kind treasures.
Something subtle, something sharp. This engraved Victorinox knife was such a cool canvas to work on. I love how clients are trusting me to bring their artistic and functional engraving ideas to life.
I always wanted to engrave a kitchen utensil, and I was so happy to personalize this beautiful cake server. I added a wedding date to make it a special part of a couple's wedding trousseau.
Did you know your favorite Zippo can be engraved? I did a freehand bold engraving on this metal Zippo, with initials on one side and a special date on the other. It makes for such a classy and clean statement.

A closer look at the custom logo I engraved on this wooden cheeseboard. I love experimenting with my skills, and seeing the final product come to life from the initial draft is so rewarding.

About this collection
I don't use lasers; every swirl you see is etched by hand using a rotary tool. This means I can work on just about anything, from stainless steel blades to seasoned wood, provided the surface can take a steady hand. If you have an heirloom or a new gift you’re nervous about marking, just know I handle every piece as if it were my own.
The Art of Hand Engraving
When you choose hand engraving over machine or laser work, you are choosing character. A machine might be fast, but it lacks the soul of freehand calligraphy. Using my rotary tool, I control the depth and pressure for every stroke, allowing me to engrave on irregular surfaces that machines simply cannot touch.
What I Can Work With
People often ask me, "Lipika, can you engrave this?" My answer is almost always yes. I have personalized:
- Kitchen Utensils: Chef’s knives, cake servers, and heavy-duty steel tools.
- Tech & Accessories: Zippo lighters, metal tech cases, and even coffee machines.
- Woodwork: Cheeseboards, serving trays, and milestone boards.
The key is the surface material and how it handles the micro-drill. Metals like stainless steel and brass take the engraving beautifully, and I finish them with custom color fills—gold, silver, or copper—to make the lettering pop. For wood, I use a deep-etching technique that adds texture and makes your logo or monogram stand out.
A Quick Note on Your Items
Because I work on personal items, I always recommend a quick consultation before we start. Whether it is a surprise gift for a partner or a branded item for your corporate event, I walk you through the design proof before I touch the tool to the surface. It is all about making sure that once it is engraved, it is a piece you will cherish forever—what I like to call marakkuma nenjam, a memory your heart won’t forget.
