Custom Calligraphy and Engraving on Wooden Surfaces
Moving beyond paper lets me explore textures like wood, agate, and leather. Whether it is for corporate gifts or personalized keepsakes, I enjoy the challenge of adapting my ink flow to these unique surfaces.

The beauty of hand-lettering is that every name has its own unique flow and character. This close-up shows the detail in the script for these custom nameplates.
Working on non-traditional surfaces like these wooden blocks is a welcome challenge. It's a fantastic way for brands to offer something truly unique and memorable as a gift.
The dark ink contrasts beautifully with the light grain of the wood. This project for Diageo involved personalizing over 50 of these blocks for a special event.

About Custom Engraving on Unique Surfaces
Writing on raw wood is a different beast compared to standard paper. The grain often pulls the ink, so I have to adjust my pressure and pen angle constantly to keep the lines crisp and legible. When I worked on the Diageo project, I tested three different types of ink before finding one that sat perfectly on the surface without bleeding into the wood fibers.
While I call this engraving, it is essentially precision hand-lettering applied to non-traditional surfaces. I often get requests to customize items like wooden blocks, agate slices, or rigid packaging, and each material demands a new approach to prep and ink choice.
Why the process matters
When you see the wooden nameplates I created for the Diageo Godawan campaign, you see the result of a specific workflow. Writing on 50 plus pieces meant I had to ensure the calligraphy was consistent from the first block to the last. This requires manual pencil drafting for centering and spacing before a single drop of ink touches the wood. It is a slow process, but it ensures that every guest receives a keepsake that feels deliberate and high-quality.
How to plan for your project
If you have a specific product in mind, let me know early on. I work best when I can test the ink on a sample of your material first. Whether it is rustic wooden nameplates for a wedding or branded items for a corporate launch, I can help you figure out which ink finish (gold, metallic, or classic black) will pop best against your chosen texture. For bulk orders, I typically need 3 to 5 days to ensure everything is perfect, so please reach out with your timeline as soon as possible.
