My Journey: 5 Years of Hand-Engraving Artistry
What started as a hobby at 24 has grown into my life’s work. I’m Lipika, and this is the story behind Quill on Paper.
Happy 5th birthday, Quill on Paper. What started as an experiment for a young 24 year old has now become a whole new identity. I've worn many hats, and I'm so grateful that I have something to call my own every day. Thank you for being part of my story.
I was so honored to be featured in The Calligraphy Square's Rendezvous Series. It was wonderful to share my journey, my sources of inspiration, and my experiences collaborating with amazing brands on on-site projects.
About this collection
People often ask if I use machines to get those perfect swirls on glass and metal, but every stroke you see is hand-carved with my rotary tool. This is not just about engraving a name, it is about the slight variations in pressure and depth that only a human hand can create, ensuring no two pieces are ever identical.
Five years ago, I started Quill on Paper as a quiet escape from my screen. It began as a small experiment, but it quickly transformed into my core identity. When you look at my work, you are seeing a mix of gratitude, hustle, and a bit of chaos that I have navigated daily since 2020.
My process is tactile. Whether I am working on a perfume bottle for a wedding gift or etching a logo onto a corporate tumbler, I use a rotary tool to manually carve every curve. This means I can adjust to the material, whether it is glass, steel, wood, or even terracotta, to ensure the final result feels personal rather than mass-produced.
I love working in different scripts, from English and Bengali to Arabic. If I can trace it, I can engrave it. My goal is to make every item something you feel in your heart, or as I like to say, marakkuma nenjam (my heart won't forget).
I am based in Bengaluru, but I travel across India for live engraving events. Whether it is an intimate anniversary gift or a large-scale brand activation, I bring the same focus to the detail. I invite you to reach out so we can turn your everyday objects into something you will keep forever.
