Inclusive Puppetry & Community Joy
We believe puppetry is a bridge, not just a performance. Through partnerships with organizations like Snehadhara Foundation, we create safe, joyful, and inclusive spaces where puppets help tell stories and express feelings.
A child from Makkala Jagriti is captivated as our 'Popo' thatha puppet seems to walk all by itself. The laughter and high energy in these community shows are absolutely contagious.
We performed for the children at St. John's hospital for International Childhood Cancer Day. Seeing their smiles as they watched the show was a priceless experience for our team.
Bringing smiles to the pediatric oncology ward at St. John's hospital was one of our most memorable shows. Sharing stories in this space is a powerful reminder of how art can bring light and joy.
A moment of pure happiness during our show at St. John's hospital. Using a simple rod puppet, we can create characters that fly and dance, bringing the story to life for the children.

We were the featured artists for Snehadhara Foundation's 'Houseful' initiative, a wonderful space for children to engage with art. This poster captures the spirit of our collaboration.
A group photo from our session with the Snehadhara Foundation. It was a beautiful day where children from different campuses came together for a day of puppetry and creative activities.
This image shows the welcoming and inclusive circle we create in our workshops. Here, participants from our session with Snehadhara Foundation are gathered and ready for the stories to begin.
The full group from our 'Houseful' event with Snehadhara Foundation. It's always a joy to see children, facilitators, and artists come together to share in the experience.
During our inclusive puppetry session, we make sure everyone gets to interact directly with the puppets and materials, creating a multi-sensory experience for all participants.
About Inclusive Puppetry & Community Joy
When I work with communities, I prefer a floor-level baithak style setup. This breaks down physical barriers between the performer and the audience, turning a show into a shared conversation. Whether it is a performance at a hospital or a student session, we focus on tactile, multi-sensory experiences where everyone gets a turn to move the puppets themselves.
Making Puppetry Accessible
My goal with PuppeTree is not just to put on a show. It is to create an environment where everyone feels invited. Puppetry is a powerful tool for connection, especially for children with special needs or those in hospital care. Because our puppets are handmade from simple materials like socks, cardboard, and wool, they feel approachable. They are not distant props on a stage. They are tangible friends that children can touch, hold, and interact with directly.
Our Approach in Community Spaces
In our sessions with partners like the Snehadhara Foundation, we focus on arts-based therapy principles. We do not just talk at the children. We engage them through:
- Multi-sensory Engagement: We use props like traditional umbrellas and varied fabrics to make the storytelling visually and tactilely rich.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: My shows are rarely a one-way street. I invite the children to join the performance, allowing them to take control of the puppets and become part of the story.
- Safe Spaces: Whether we are in a hospital ward or a community center in Bangalore, we create a calm, welcoming environment where there is no pressure to perform.
If you are looking to bring these inclusive storytelling sessions to your organization, school, or support group, I am happy to discuss a format that fits your specific needs. From one-off performances to recurring creative workshops, we focus on what matters most—sharing joy and building confidence through art.
PuppeTree
I'm Anvitha, and with my team at PuppeTree, I use puppetry to find common ground with kids, whether they're in a classroom or a hospital ward. We don't believe in barriers, so we keep our stories simple, heartfelt, and open for anyone to join in.
