This smash and tap drill is crucial for offensive play. The player practices following a powerful smash with a quick move to the net to finish the point with a tap, a key tactic in singles and doubles.
The court is covered in shuttles after an intense multi-shuttle feeding drill. This type of training is designed to push a player's endurance and reaction speed to the limit.
Blazing defense in action. This video showcases a variety of defensive drills where players practice returning a continuous stream of shots, building the quick reflexes needed to stay in the rally.
About Advanced Drills & Techniques
If you are stuck at the same level, it is usually your footwork or reaction timing. In my advanced sessions, I run high-volume multi-shuttle feeding drills that force your muscles to adapt to match-speed intensity. You won't just learn a shot, you will learn the movement pattern to execute it while under pressure.
To move from a recreational player to a competitive one, you need more than just rally practice. My advanced sessions focus on the tactical side of badminton where the game is actually won. We start with intensive multi-shuttle feeding, which keeps your heart rate in the competitive zone and forces faster reaction times.
We cover specific tactical areas:
- Defensive Sequences: I teach you how to maintain your defensive stance, absorb power from smashes, and keep the shuttle in play under heavy pressure.
- Doubles Rotation: Most players struggle with positioning. We drill the standard front-and-back and side-by-side rotations so you and your partner move as one unit.
- Smash & Tap Combinations: This is about offensive efficiency. You practice the follow-through so that your first smash is not just a singular shot, but the setup for a finishing tap at the net.
Conditioning is non-negotiable here. I integrate HIIT exercises specific to badminton, focusing on the explosive power needed for lunges and jump smashes. Since we train on indoor AC synthetic courts at Eskay Resorts, you can push through these drills without battling heat exhaustion. The goal is to build the stamina that lets you stay sharp during the final points of a match when your opponent is already slowing down. If you are serious about tournament prep or just want to dominate your local club, these are the drills that make the difference.
