Heritage & Plein Air Art Journeys
I believe art happens best when we step out of the studio. Join me on day-long heritage trips where we swap our easels for history, local dance, and open skies to find your own creative story.
This video captures our art day at Lepakshi Temple. We drew inspiration directly from the ancient murals and sculptures, learned through dance and poetry, and created our own art in the temple's historic courtyards. It was a beautiful fusion of past and present.
About Immersive Art Journeys
These 12-hour excursions are designed to take your practice outside the studio. We handle all logistics, from round-trip AC transport to all meals, so you can focus entirely on plein air techniques like capturing light, shadow, and perspective. You also get to keep the portable travel kit, which includes a hardbound sketchbook and watercolors, making it easy to continue your sketching practice long after we return from the heritage site.
Art is not just about what you create; it is about where you are and how you see the world. When we head out to places like the Lepakshi Temple or the hills around Nandi, the environment becomes the teacher. These heritage journeys are about slowing down and observing the details that usually get missed in the rush of daily life.
Why Go Plein Air?
Painting on location, or plein air, forces you to work with natural light and changing conditions. It teaches you to simplify complex subjects quickly. During these trips, I guide you through the process of setting up a composition, mixing colors that match the atmosphere, and capturing the essence of the structure before you. It is a different kind of discipline compared to working from a photograph in a studio.
The Logistics
We keep the group size intimate so that I can provide individual feedback to everyone. The day is structured to balance focused work with exploration:
- 7 AM Departure: We leave central Bangalore together, ensuring a relaxed start.
- Morning Sketching: We spend the morning hours focused on capturing the architecture and history of the site.
- Buffet Lunch: A proper meal at a nearby resort helps us recharge.
- Afternoon Session: We often end with a session on light and shadow, incorporating local elements or even snippets of poetry and movement to round out the experience.
What You Take Home
Beyond the skills and the memories, you leave with a portable travel kit that is yours to keep. This includes professional-grade charcoal, pencils, and travel watercolors. My goal is for you to walk away with the confidence to start your own sketchbook practice whenever you travel, turning your future trips into art adventures.
