Portraits of Indian Culture and Heritage
I chase the stories hidden in everyday faces and vibrant street corners. This gallery is a look at the people, traditions, and colors that keep our culture alive.
A proud Rajasthani man in traditional attire and a magnificent turban at the Ranakpur Festival, embodying the region's regal heritage.
A group of four Koli women from Edvan, Saphale, dressed in their traditional printed sarees and gold jewelry, sitting together with grace and strength.
A powerful mural of a woman with striking blue eyes, her face partially covered by a sari, found on a wall in Pushkar.
A beautiful wall painting of a Rajasthani man with a traditional turban and a grand mustache, captured while exploring the streets of Jodhpur.
A mural of a smiling Rajasthani woman in traditional attire, her expressive eyes and gentle smile adding color to a wall in Jodhpur.
About this collection
My approach for these portraits is not about setting up a formal studio. I rely on a hybrid workflow, using my iPhone Pro for candid street interactions that feel intimate, and switching to professional gear when the scene demands more depth and texture. I prefer letting the subject be natural because that is when the real expression emerges.
Finding the Story
When I shoot portraits, whether it is a Koli woman in Saphale or a Rajasthani man at the Pushkar Fair, I am looking for more than a pretty face. I want to capture the history etched in the lines of a face and the pride in traditional attire. Every portrait tells a story, or as I like to call it, an 'ek kahani'.
My Locations & Process
My work takes me from the narrow, colorful lanes of Jodhpur to the coastal communities of Maharashtra. I am not just observing; I am documenting the 'modern-heritage jugalbandi' that exists across India.
- Candid vs. Posed: I mix both techniques. Sometimes a candid street shot captures the true vibe better than a posed session ever could.
- Equipment: I use a hybrid setup. iPhone Pro series for quick, unobtrusive street photography and professional drones for aerial context when the environment plays a big part in the subject's story.
- Editing: My edit style is vibrant and high-contrast, optimized to make the colors of India pop on digital screens.
Whether you are looking for documentary-style coverage of a cultural festival or a set of portraits that feel raw and real, my goal is to deliver assets that feel like they have a soul. I am available to travel to your location to document these stories.
Photokablega
Born and raised in Mumbai, I am obsessed with the 'aamchi Mumbai' spirit and the vibrant tapestry of India. Whether it is documenting local communities or the regal aura of a Rajasthani festival, my lens focuses on the 'thoda dil' in every frame.
