We believe in using dance for storytelling. Our professional troupe, The Nrityakosh Company, creates works that use the language of Middle Eastern dance and Indian fusion to express narratives that matter to modern audiences.

A clip from "Parikrama: The Journey Within," a personal narrative exploring the identity of a Middle Eastern dance practitioner in India. The show delves into themes of belonging and self discovery.

A look back at "The Triple Bill," an initiative we started to promote emerging choreographers in oriental and fusion belly dance, giving them a platform to present their work.

About this collection

If you are coming to see our work, know that it isn't just about technique. Through our 'Triple Bill' initiative, we open our stage to emerging choreographers, giving them the resources to turn experimental works-in-progress into fully produced stage compositions. This ensures that the professional belly dance scene in India continues to grow through genuine, collaborative storytelling.

Our productions are rooted in the belief that dance is a language. We move beyond the common perception of belly dance to explore themes of identity, love, and history, blending traditional oriental techniques with Indian fusion and contemporary movement.

Our Approach to Storytelling

Every piece we stage, whether it is a solo exploration or a large-scale company production, begins with research and emotional intent. We focus on 'bhava' (emotion) and 'rasa' (flavor) to create a movement dialogue that connects with the viewer. You will see this in works like 'In the Mood for Love,' where we drew inspiration from the art of Egon Schiele and Banksy to explore different allegories of affection, and 'Parikrama,' which deconstructs the identity of a belly dancer in India.

The Nrityakosh Company Productions

Our stage work often takes place at Medai, in Koramangala, a space that allows us to maintain the intimacy required for our storytelling. We tackle complex subjects, such as in our production 'Papusza,' which narrates the life of the Romani poet Bronislawa Wajs. These productions are not just performances but an invitation to look deeper into the history and cultural traditions we work with.

Why We Produce

The Nrityakosh Company exists to challenge the status quo. By providing a platform for professional dancers to move away from commercial constraints and into experimental storytelling, we cultivate a community of thinking dancers. We are consistently developing new work, and our repertory shows are where this experimentation meets the audience.
