Balcony and Terrace Flooring Makeovers
Turn your balcony into a functional outdoor space with weather-resistant decking and low-maintenance green turf. I handle the setup from design to installation.

This image shows the installation process for a balcony floor. The artificial grass is laid first, and then the interlocking wooden deck tiles are placed on top, making it a clean and efficient process.
About Balcony & Terrace Makeovers
The secret to a lasting balcony floor is the foundation work. Before laying any wood tiles or grass, I verify your existing floor slope to ensure water flows directly to the drain point. This prevents pooling and water damage during Bangalore's monsoon season.
A balcony makeover is about making an unused concrete slab feel like a living space. My approach combines two main elements: interlocking wood tiles and artificial turf.
The Materials
- Interlocking Wood Tiles: I use 12x12 inch Acacia or hardwood tiles. These sit on a plastic drainage base that keeps the wood off the wet concrete, allowing air to circulate. They provide a warm, clean look that is easy to maintain.
- Artificial Grass: I install high-density synthetic grass with a pile height between 35mm and 45mm. This gives you a lush green look without the mess of mud or the need for constant watering.
The Process
- Surface Prep: I start with a deep clean and check of the floor level. If the floor is uneven, the installation won't last.
- Drainage: I carefully cut tiles and grass mats around corners and pillars. Proper drainage is the priority so you don't have moisture trapped under the flooring.
- Edging: I use river pebbles or white stones to create a clean border. This stops the grass from fraying at the edges and provides a finished, sharp line between your flooring and the wall.
This setup works well for compact Bangalore balconies or large terrace spaces. Whether you want a spot for morning coffee or a clean play area for kids, this combination is durable, weather-resistant, and requires very little upkeep.
