Behind the Scenes: My Process of Filmmaking

Every frame has a story. This is a look at the gear, the setups, and the late-night edits that turn raw footage into cinematic film.

A shot of me on World Photography Day, checking my camera between takes. This image represents my seven-year journey behind the lens and my passion for capturing the stories hidden in plain sight.

Me with my vintage film camera, ready to capture a moment by the sea. This photo celebrates the art of photography and my love for different formats, both digital and analog.

A fun reel about what I'd do if I won the lottery. The signs would be a fully rigged cinema camera and a high-end editing setup. It’s a humorous take on my passion for professional filmmaking gear.

The setup vs. the shot. This video shows my simple iPhone setup at the Gateway of India and then reveals the epic, cinematic shots I was able to create with it.

A reel showing "The Artist" and "The Art." It contrasts a shot of me in action with the final cinematic footage I captured, connecting the creator to the creation.

A video that answers the question, "Why do you take a camera everywhere you go?" For me, it's a habit. I'm always ready to capture a beautiful sunset or a cinematic moment.

This reel is about the mindset of a director. It encourages creators to just pick up a camera and shoot something, because the act of creating is what makes you a filmmaker.

About this collection

People often ask if I use a massive crew, but honestly, my best work happens when I keep the setup minimal. Whether I am shooting on the streets of Mumbai or covering a brand launch, I prefer a lightweight mirrorless or iPhone setup combined with anamorphic lenses. This allows me to move fast and capture candid, real reactions before the moment passes, which I then polish late at night in Premiere Pro.

My process is less about rigid planning and more about chasing the vibe. I don't believe in over-scripting; I believe in being ready.

The Setup

My gear bag is a mix of high-end and accessible tech. I use the DJI Mini 4 Pro for those sweeping drone shots that establish scale, paired with an iPhone 15 Pro and Skyvik anamorphic lenses for that classic wide-screen aesthetic. For corporate events or brand films, I switch to mirrorless setups with fast prime lenses to get that creamy depth-of-field that separates the subject from the chaos of the city.

The Edit

This is where the magic really happens. I am a bit obsessive about color grading. I spend hours in Premiere Pro balancing those moody teal and orange tones until the footage pops. It is not just about cutting clips; it is about finding the rhythm of the event.

Working Together

If you are looking for a shiny, generic commercial, I might not be the right fit. But if you want a film that feels like a scene from a movie—raw, atmospheric, and real—let’s talk. I handle everything from the initial vision to the final, beat-synced cut, ensuring we capture the story you actually want to tell.

I’m Avinash. For me, a camera is just a tool to capture the chaos and calm of this city. I don't chase shots; I chase stories—whether it's the rain in Powai or a high-energy brand launch.
