About Wall Lights & Sconces
Wall lights are not just about adding brightness, they are about shadow play and texture. If you choose a sharp beam light for a rough stone wall, it creates a 3D effect that flat paint simply cannot match. Before you pick a fixture, check your wall's surface. A textured wall needs a wall washer to bring out the depth, while a smooth, modern wall looks best with a clean, linear sconce.
Lighting is often an afterthought, but your wall lights are actually the jewelry of your room. Whether you want to highlight a piece of art or just add a soft glow for reading, the right sconce changes the entire vibe.
Why Wall Lights Matter
Most people rely solely on ceiling lights, which leave corners dark and flat. Wall lights create layers. By introducing a secondary light source at eye level, you break up the monotony of a large wall. In my showroom in Gagan Vihar, I always tell clients: don't just buy what looks pretty on Pinterest. Think about where the light hits the wall.
Technical Tips for Installation
- Wiring Depth: If you are retrofitting lights into an existing home, check your junction boxes first. Some modern geometric sconces have very slim profiles that won't hide old wiring. I often help clients find a 'patch' or a custom base to cover these gaps so you don't have to repaint.
- Beam Angles: A narrow beam creates drama and geometric shapes, while a wide angle is better for general hallway illumination. If you have a long corridor, try alternating sconces to create a rhythm.
- The Art Deco Touch: Lately, we have been seeing a lot of love for Art Deco glass and brass finishes. These pieces look great even when they are turned off.
I handle the technical side, like checking your switch placement and ensuring the drivers are easy to access for future maintenance. If you are unsure about the placement or the type of light that suits your wall, send me a photo of your space. I will tell you exactly what will work.
