Before you finalize a chandelier, we need to check two things: ceiling strength and wiring. If it is a heavy crystal piece, we must ensure the slab can support the weight, and for modern LED rings, we have to make sure the drivers are tucked away properly. It is much better to check these technical details before you drill into your ceiling.
How to Pick the Right Hanging Light
I have been doing this for over 25 years, and the biggest mistake people make is picking a light based only on how it looks in a picture. A massive chandelier might look great in a showroom, but if it is too low for your dining table or blocks the view, it becomes an annoyance.
Key things I look at with my clients:
- Ceiling Height: If you have a double-height foyer, we need cascading fixtures that fill the vertical space. For a standard 10-foot ceiling, we stick to flush mounts or shorter pendants so the room does not feel cramped.
- The Weight Factor: Heavy crystal fixtures need proper support. We never mount these on thin gypsum false ceilings without adding a wooden frame or a metal anchor first.
- Maintenance: Modern LED rings and abstract mesh lights are beautiful, but you need to know how to clean them. I always advise on materials that don’t collect dust easily or are simple to wipe down.
