3D Texture Painting Workshops
Forget brushes for a moment. We are using palette knives, texture paste, and heavy body acrylics to build art you can actually feel, right here on canvas.
This heavily textured wave painting is a key sample for my workshops. You can see how the thick application of texture paste creates a powerful 3D effect, making the wave feel like it's crashing out of the canvas.
A different style of texture art, this piece combines a swirling, textured sunset with a field of tiny, sculpted roses. This shows how you can use texture paste to create both broad strokes and fine details.
An angled view of the textured sunset and rose field painting. This perspective highlights the raised surfaces and shadows, which is the unique appeal of creating tactile art with texture paste.
A full view of the finished ocean wave texture painting. In my class, you'll learn how to mix colors and apply paste with a palette knife to achieve this kind of dramatic, sculptural result.
About 3D Texture Painting
Forget fine lines and perfect blending for a moment. In my texture painting sessions, we trade brushes for palette knives to build up thick, sculptural layers on canvas. It is hands-on, a bit messy, and honestly, one of the most relaxing ways to switch off your brain after a long week.
There is something about working with texture that feels completely different from standard painting. You aren't just filling in colors, you are sculpting shapes directly onto your surface.
What we actually do
In these workshops, we dive into impasto techniques. I provide all the supplies, from the heavy-body acrylic paints to the modelling paste that gives your work that 3D volume. Whether we are creating crashing ocean waves or a sunset that pops off the canvas, the process is forgiving. If a stroke doesn't look right, we just add more texture or rework the knife movement.
Why it works
I find that when you focus on the tactile movement of the palette knife, the mental chatter just quiets down. It is my favorite way to reset when my own head feels a bit tangled. You do not need to be a pro to get a great result. I walk you through the color blending and layering step by step, so even if you have never picked up a palette knife, you will leave with a piece of art that looks and feels intentional.
Practical stuff
We usually spend 2 to 3 hours on this. The session includes your canvas, paints, and all the tools. If you are coming to one of my pop-ups at a cafe, there is often a complimentary beverage to keep things chill. If you are booking a private session, I bring the entire setup to your venue, clear the mess, and leave you with your finished art.
