About Newborn & Naming Ceremony Films & Photos
When I cover a Barsa or naming ceremony, I don’t just focus on the cradle ceremony or the traditional outfits. My priority is capturing those brief, quiet interactions—a grandmother’s soft touch or the parents’ exhausted but happy smiles—that usually happen in the corners while the rituals take center stage.
The first few weeks are a blur of feedings and sleepless nights, but the naming ceremony is when everyone comes together to celebrate this new life. I want to help you remember exactly how it felt. My approach to Barsa photography in Mumbai combines two things: the traditional documentation of rituals like the Otibharan or cradle rocking, and the candid moments that tell the real story of the day.
You might be worried about keeping the baby comfortable during a long ceremony. I have worked with plenty of newborns and infants, and I know that the baby’s mood comes first. We take breaks when needed, and I am patient with the pace of the day.
For the cinematic highlight reels, I aim to keep them short and meaningful—3 to 5 minutes—so you actually want to watch them on repeat. These films cover the atmosphere, the laughter of family, and those small, intimate details that photos sometimes miss. Whether you are hosting a traditional Maharashtrian naming ceremony in Mulund or a modern celebration in South Mumbai, I bring my full-frame gear and a relaxed, observation-first style to capture it all.
