My Guide to Finding Your Perfect Lip
From choosing the right nude to mastering long-lasting combos, here is how I help you get your lips ready for any occasion.
Finding the right nude lipstick can be tricky, especially for wheatish skin tones where colors can wash you out. I demonstrate the correct way to apply nude lipstick, including prepping your lips and using a liner, to make the color pop and complement your complexion.
You don't need fillers to get the look of plumper lips. I'll teach you my technique for faking fuller lips using just a lip scrub, a liner to slightly overline your natural shape, and a strategically placed lipstick.
This is my go-to summer nude lip combination that is long-lasting and non-drying. I pair two liquid matte lipsticks from Huda Beauty and Too Faced to create a custom shade that stays put for up to 14 hours.
Here's a tutorial for a perfect summer lip combo using MyGlamm products. I show you how to layer a pH lip balm for moisture, a matte lip liner for definition, and a buttery crayon lipstick for a comfortable, long-wearing finish.
If you love glossy lips but hate that they don't last, this product is for you. I'm reviewing the Maybelline Vinyl Ink lipstick, which gives you a beautiful high-shine finish with surprisingly good staying power, perfect for summer.
A look at some of my favorite liquid matte lipsticks from MyGlamm. I swatch four different shades on my arm and then apply one to show you the true color payoff and smudge-proof finish.
Summer is the perfect time for juicy, glossy pink lips. Here I'm applying a vibrant pink gloss from Juicy Couture for a fun, fresh, and high-shine look.
About Find Your Perfect Lip
Many of us struggle with nude lipsticks that end up looking chalky or washing us out, especially on wheatish skin tones. I always suggest prepping your lips with a scrub first, and then using a slightly darker lip liner to ground the look, which keeps the focus on your features rather than just the lipstick color.
Finding the right lip combination is often about trial and error, but there are a few rules that change the game.
Why Nudes Can Be Tricky
The biggest mistake is choosing a nude that is lighter than your natural skin tone. If you have a wheatish or medium complexion, go for warm undertones like peachy-nudes or mauve-browns. These don't wash you out like cool-toned pinks or greys might.
My Go-To Layering Hacks
If you have a favorite lipstick that feels a bit too drying or flat, try layering. For summer, I love pairing a long-lasting liquid matte with a touch of gloss or a moisturizing balm. This keeps the color on your lips for hours without that uncomfortable, tight feeling.
Faking Fullness
You do not need fillers to achieve a fuller look. My preferred technique is to lightly overline the Cupid's bow and the center of the bottom lip, then blend the liner inward before applying your lipstick. This creates a soft, natural shadow that makes your lips look naturally plump.
My Current Favorites
I test everything I recommend. For a long-wearing summer combo, I often mix a Huda Beauty liquid matte with a Too Faced shade. If you want something quick, the Maybelline Vinyl Ink line gives that glossy finish with impressive staying power. Remember, the best lipstick is one that makes you feel confident, whether it is a drugstore find or a high-end splurge.
