Getting a lush lawn is not just about throwing down grass. I focus heavily on the base—soil enrichment with the right mix of vermicompost and cocopeat—and ensuring your ground has the proper slope for drainage. If you do not get these two things right, the garden will not last a single season.
Beyond the Greenery
When I take on a villa project, the first thing I look at is the soil. Most urban villas have construction debris buried underneath, which is terrible for long-term plant health. My team clears the area, removes the waste, and enriches the earth with a mix of red soil, vermicompost, and organic fertilizer.
The Lawn Foundation
I generally recommend Mexican Carpet Grass or Selection No. 1 for our Bangalore climate. These varieties are hardy and create that dense, soft mat you want for your kids to play on or for hosting weekend chai sessions. We install these with sand leveling to make sure the grass grows evenly without pockets of water.
Hardscaping and Water Management
Landscaping is not just about planting trees. I design pathways using granite or natural Sadarahalli stones set in pebbles, which helps manage water flow during our heavy monsoon spells. If you have the space, we can also integrate rock ponds or lily pools—the sound of moving water completely changes the vibe of a backyard.
Mature Tree Transplantation
Don't want to wait years for shade? I source and transplant mature trees like Tabebuia or Bottle Brush to give your garden an immediate sense of scale and maturity. It is a bit of work, but having a full-grown tree in your garden makes it feel like it has been there for decades.
