The Art of the Knot: Handmade Macrame Textures

byShikha AgarwalDelivered across BengaluruView full gallery

Every piece I create begins with a single cord and a lot of patience. Here is a glimpse into how I turn simple cotton strings into intricate textures for your home.

A relaxing moment showing my hands at work, knotting a colorful macrame feather. This is where the magic happens, turning simple cords into a beautiful piece of art.

This is a close-up of a complex macrame pattern. I love how the repetition of simple knots creates such an intricate and beautiful texture, adding warmth and a handmade feel to any piece.

About this collection

When I work on these patterns, especially the feathers or intricate wall weaves, I use 100% cotton cord because it holds the knot definition so well. It is not just about the look; it is about the way the cotton feels under your fingers. If you are picking a color, remember that teal or mustard cords look particularly vibrant when they catch the light, whereas the natural cream shades bring out the physical depth of every single twist.

My Knotting Process

It takes steady, careful hands to maintain consistent tension throughout a project. Whether I am knotting a small macrame bookmark or a larger wall hanging, I obsess over the pattern repetition. The chevron and geometric weaves you see in my gallery take hours of deliberate, slow work.

Material Matters

I exclusively use 3mm and 4mm twisted cotton cord for these pieces. It is biodegradable, soft to the touch, and holds its shape much better than synthetic alternatives. This matters because macrame is meant to be touched and enjoyed, not just looked at from a distance.

Designing for Your Space

Because I make these to order, you have full control over the final product. You can pick the palette—perhaps earthy tones for your study or bright pastels for a nursery. We can work together to choose a design that matches the mood of your room.

If you are planning to use these pieces as gifts, I can also add small details like wooden beads or alloy clasps to make them feel complete. Since I handle everything from the initial knot to the final tassel, you are getting a piece that was crafted specifically for your home, not something mass-produced and sitting on a shelf.
