Behind the Knots: My Creative Process

byDeepikaDelivered across BengaluruView full gallery

Ever wondered how your favourite wall hanging goes from a pile of cotton cord to art? Get a peek at the messy, fun, and very real process behind every piece I knot.

This is the reality of a fiber artist. We deal with insane amounts of cords, sometimes 10 to 12 times the length of the final project. It's not always easy, but this is the beautiful mess behind every piece I create.

What's the most tedious part of your small business? For me, it's making macrame rainbows and gluing them into the perfect shape. If you don't glue them just right, they don't look like rainbows anymore. It's a tricky but crucial step.

This video tells a bit of my story and how I fell in love with macrame. It truly feels like the art chose me. I'm so happy to be part of a community that celebrates handmade items made with love.

A little snippet of my small business. This journey has given me so much more than I ever expected, from recognition to financial wins. Thank you for supporting me. If you see anything you like, I'm just a message away.

Orders like these are so special. A bulk buyer wanted everything I had in stock for immediate shipping. I sent her photos of these 20 rainbow keychains, a wall pocket, a plant hanger, and a hairband, and she took them all. It made my day.

Do my hands match my art? They are definitely not manicured, and they often have cuts or rough patches from working with the cords. But I love macrame and what I create with these hands every day.

About this collection

It is just me, my hands, and hundreds of meters of cotton cord. The most tedious part is calculating the cord length—I often measure 10 to 12 times the size of the final piece—because hamare cords pad gaye chhote (our cords fell short) happens more often than you would think! It is all part of the messy, rewarding process of making something that will actually last in your home.

More Than Just Tying Knots

When you buy a piece of macrame, you are paying for hours of labor, not just materials. I don't use machines. Every loop, knot, and fringe is done by hand. For large 7-foot curtains or intricate wall hangings, that means standing for hours, working with heavy cords, and ensuring the tension is perfect so the piece hangs straight.

The 'Messy' Reality

I believe in showing the full picture. Sometimes that means gluing individual rainbows for nursery decor until my hands are sticky, or dealing with tangled piles of thread when working on bulk orders. Even my hands tell the story—they aren't manicured because I am constantly working with cords, occasionally getting cuts or rough patches. That is the reality of being a fiber artist, and I wouldn't have it any other way because it makes the final result so much more personal.

Your Custom Order Journey

When you request a custom piece, we start by picking your vibe. Whether you want a moon-shaped dreamcatcher for your bedroom or a sturdy plant hanger that can actually hold 7 kg, I tailor the knotting pattern and cord thickness to suit your needs. I even apply stiffening spray to ensure your decor holds its shape for years, rather than just looking good for a single season. If you have an idea in your head, message me—we can usually figure out a way to knot it.
