Textile and Paper Craft Workshops for Kids
Discover the intersection of art and engineering. From weaving on wooden looms to recycling paper, our textile and specialty arts workshops help kids build confidence through creation.
A montage of different art and craft activities, including painting, dominoes, and paper crafts, showing the variety of skills we explore.
From paper art to expressive dance, our workshops for younger kids (ages 4-6) incorporate movement and play into the creative process.
A cozy winter weaving session in progress. Kids learn to work with colorful yarn to create their own patterns and textiles on wooden looms.
A look at the materials for our weaving workshop: colorful yarn, wooden loom parts, and all the tools needed to get started.
We teach kids about sustainability with our paper recycling workshop. They learn the entire process of turning old newspaper into new, usable paper sheets.
A child practices his scissor skills by carefully cutting colored paper for a craft project.
Getting hands-on with paper pulp! Kids work together to break down shredded newspaper with water, the first step in making recycled paper.
About this collection
You might be surprised by how much kids can actually do when they are given real tools instead of just crayons. In our weaving sessions, we do not just teach patterns, but children work on actual wooden looms to understand the tension and mechanics behind textiles. Similarly, our paper recycling workshops turn old newspapers into usable, textured sheets, showing them the physical science of how things get made.
Why we mix art and science
We call our approach STEAM because we believe creativity is as essential as math or physics. When a child learns to weave on a loom or pours acrylics for fluid art, they are practicing focus, patience, and technical skill.
The workshop experience
Our sessions are designed to be hands-on and purposefully messy. We provide the base materials, but the design choices belong to the children.
What we explore:
- Textiles and Weaving: Children use wooden looms to create wall hangings, learning about yarn tension and geometric patterns.
- Paper Craft and Recycling: We turn shredded newspapers into new, usable paper sheets. It is a lesson in sustainability and chemistry that kids can take home.
- Specialty Techniques: We rotate through fluid art, dot mandalas, and frame weaving. These techniques require precision and fine motor control, which are great for developing confidence in younger students.
Everything is done in small batches to keep the environment supportive. Whether it is a painting project or a loom session, the goal is for the child to look at their project and say, 'I made this myself.' We provide the tools and the space, but the innovation comes from them.
Little Wings Innovation Labs
I am Rahul, and along with Daniel, we turned our childhood curiosity into this Maker Space in Vidyaranyapura. We keep our groups small and our sessions messy because that is how kids really learn, whether they are weaving on a loom or turning pulp into paper.
