Play-Based Learning and Child Development
We believe play is not an extra—it is how children grow. Our spaces are designed to follow their lead, turning simple moments into profound learning.
This is the essence of our approach. We see art not as a product to be perfected, but as a process of discovery. When a child holds a stone, feels its weight, and chooses a color, they are making decisions, testing ideas, and expressing a thought. This is not just painting; it is choice, it is process, it is learning made visible.
Our environment is the third teacher. We intentionally curate shelves with natural, open-ended materials like stones, pinecones, and seed pods. These "loose parts" invite children to imagine, create, and construct their own stories, transforming simple objects into anything their minds can conceive.
The most profound learning happens in moments of shared wonder. Here, an educator doesn't just provide an answer, but joins a child in their curiosity. By meeting their questions with genuine joy and attention, we nurture their confidence to explore, question, and become lifelong learners.
Play is serious work, and sometimes that work is building a tower to the sky. As children collaborate on a structure, they are navigating physics, negotiating with peers, and solving complex problems. They learn to balance, to share a vision, and to celebrate a shared success.
Learning is a partnership, and we invite parents to be a part of the journey. When a parent and child create together, they are not just painting; they are connecting, communicating, and building shared memories. These moments strengthen the bond between home and school.
We believe that learning begins with wonder, not worksheets. Play is how children engage their whole body and whole brain, building real-world skills like problem-solving and empathy. This is the science-backed foundation of our approach.
An obstacle course is more than just a physical challenge; it is a lesson in focus, balance, and motor planning. As this child navigates the path, they are building core stability and body awareness, which are foundational skills for everything from writing to self-regulation.
A message from our founder, Sonya Philip, on the fundamental right of every child to play. We believe that when children are given the time and space to direct their own play, the real magic of learning happens. It is through this autonomy that joy, wonder, and creativity flourish.
About Featured
Our classrooms are intentional, not cluttered. We use 'loose parts'—stones, pinecones, wooden blocks, and seed pods—instead of rigid plastic toys. This approach invites your child to build, explore, and create their own meaning without a predefined outcome, honoring their innate curiosity rather than teaching to a test.
At Learning Matters, our environment acts as the 'third teacher.' We carefully design our centers in Green Park, Vasant Vihar, and Max Towers to provoke wonder. You won’t find plastic, battery-operated toys here. Instead, you will see open shelves filled with natural materials that allow for complex problem-solving and sensory engagement.
Why Process Matters More Than Product
We move away from standard 'crafts' where every child produces the same outcome. When your child engages in process art or sensory play, they are making decisions, testing physics, and refining motor skills. Whether they are balancing in an obstacle course or exploring light and shadow, they are building the cognitive foundations that last a lifetime. We focus on the journey of discovery, tracking milestones through qualitative observation rather than grades or rote assessments.
Parents as Partners
We view education as a collaborative effort. Raising a child is a team sport, and we want you in the loop. Through periodic coffee mornings, parent visits, and open communication, we ensure that the philosophy of child-led play carries over from our centers to your home.
A Support System for Every Child
Our team—including our therapists and educators—is trained to see differences as possibilities, not deficits. Whether you are joining us for our parent-toddler sessions, our preschool program, or specialized after-school workshops, we offer a neuro-affirmative space where every child feels seen and supported. We don't fix children here; we help them thrive on their own terms.
Learning Matters
We’re Learning Matters, started by Sonya with the simple idea that kids should get to be kids. Our people bring the heart. This place is built on kindness and curiosity, and we grow with our families, not just teach their children.
