About Pure Flamenco: Solo & Improvised
When you book a solo act, remember that the sound of my zapateado (footwork) is half the performance. I require a proper wooden floor or stage overlay. Without that resonance, the rhythm gets lost, and the experience will not hit the way it is meant to.
This is the art form in its most vulnerable state. There is no band to hide behind, no ensemble to fill the space. Just me, my guitarists, and the raw connection between the percussive footwork and the music.
I focus heavily on zapateado (the percussive strikes of the shoe against the floor). This is not just movement; it is sound. Because of this, my technical requirements are strict. I need a microphone dedicated to the floor, and a wooden surface that does not just look good, but sounds right under the weight of the steps.
Often, clients ask why a solo act is priced this way when it looks simple. It is because the intensity requires 100% focus for every single second. Whether it is a bulerias or a soleas rhythm, the jugalbandi (dialogue) between me and the percussionist is improvisational. We do not run to a pre-recorded track; we watch each other, we breathe together, and we build the climax dil se (from the heart).
