Behind the Art: My Creative Process
Painting isn't just about the final image. It’s the messy sketch, the right spray, and the vibe shift before the wall gets hit.
A poster from a live graffiti event I did at Ape City. I love painting in front of a crowd and sharing the energy of creation.
A cool moment when I got to meet graffiti legends Lady Aiko and Martha Cooper. I gave them a custom piece on a 100 rupee note as a souvenir.
About Behind the Art
People think I just pull up and spray, but the real work happens in the decode phase. I take your vague idea, maybe just a feeling or a reference image, and we bounce concepts back and forth until the sketch hits that masala flow sweet spot. Before a single drop of paint touches your wall or canvas, we have already locked the composition and color palette on the iPad, so you know exactly what the chaos is going to look like.
My process is all about merging street grit with tight design. When you come to me with a concept, I don't just start spraying. We start by deconstructing what you want. Whether it is a mural for a workspace or a custom canvas, I use an iPad to build a digital mock-up first. This is where we finalize the flow and the lettering style, especially if we are mixing Devnagri elements with graffiti.
Execution is where the 'Masala' happens. I use professional-grade aerosols like Flame and Montana for their gradient control and saturation, layered with Posca markers for those crisp, clean details that make a piece pop. For canvas work, I stick to gallery-wrapped cotton on pine frames because the texture handles the aerosol drift better than flat boards. If I am working on wood or an old skateboard deck, the prep is different. It involves sanding, priming, and carving physical depth into the wood before the paint ever hits it. This isn't just about covering a surface. It is about treating your wall or your object as a living part of the scene. I protect every piece with UV-resistant varnish, whether matte or gloss, to keep the colors fresh and the lines sharp. If you want to see how this translates to a project, hit me up, and let's decode your idea.
