Early Literacy and Reading Programs for Preschoolers in Yelahanka
At Knowledge Origin, literacy begins with curiosity, not drills. We build a lifelong love for books through daily read-aloud sessions, phonics play, and independent exploration in our cozy Yelahanka center.
A young boy points to the words as he reads, a key step in developing tracking skills and one-to-one correspondence in our literacy program.
Two students share a book, reading together and helping each other sound out words. Peer learning is a powerful tool we encourage.
Snuggled up on the floor, a group of children is captivated by a storybook. Our cozy story times are a favorite part of the day for all age groups.
An overhead view of story time shows an educator and children gathered closely around a book, creating a warm and intimate learning experience.
Children look up at the phonics chart on the wall while listening to a story, making connections between the sounds they hear and the letters they see.
Our Independent Toddlers show their growing independence by picking their own story mats and getting ready for story time on the terrace.
A toddler enjoys some quiet time, lying on the grass and looking through a Peppa Pig book. We encourage picture reading to build early literacy habits.
About this collection
We believe in teaching letter sounds rather than just names, because sounds are more logical for decoding words. You will see our toddlers and preschoolers playing with sound cards and flashcards in the morning, naturally building the skills they need to start reading independently by the time they reach our K2 program.
Building Readers, One Story at a Time
Our approach to literacy is designed to meet children where they are. For our toddlers, this starts with "picture reading," where they hold books, turn pages, and build the narrative skills that come long before they identify letters. As they grow into our Playgroup and Preschool programs, we introduce phonic-based learning.
Why Phonics Matters
We avoid rote memorization. Instead, we use tools like flashcards and sound games to show children how letters work together. By understanding sounds, children gain the tools to decode new words on their own. This creates a sense of confidence, transforming reading from a task into an exciting discovery.
Our Cozy Reading Culture
Our Yelahanka center is built with dedicated reading corners filled with cushions and accessible book shelves. We know that if a child can reach a book, they are more likely to pick it up. We foster this by:
- Daily Read-Alouds: Teachers and children gather for snuggle-up story times that focus on active listening and imaginative engagement.
- Peer Learning: Older children often read to younger ones, reinforcing their own understanding while building social connections.
- Independent Choices: We encourage toddlers to pick their own story mats and books, giving them agency over their learning journey.
Whether your child is just starting to point at pictures or is ready to sound out their first words, our programs are structured to grow with them, ensuring they develop both the technical skills and the emotional connection to reading that lasts a lifetime.
Knowledge Origin
We are a group of parents who built this space because we wanted more than just rote learning for our own children. We focus on hands-on experiences that help your child discover the magic of language at their own pace.
