Meet the Maker: My Journey with Knot That Stitch
I’m Swati, and Knot That Stitch is my little world of threads, knots, and therapy. Come take a peek at the journey behind my handmade fiber art in Mumbai.
Here’s a little bit about me, Swati. Making things with thread is my therapy and my passion. I learned crochet and embroidery from my mom and pour my heart into every piece I create from my home in Mumbai.
This was such a special day, my first ever market with Knot That Stitch. Here I am with my mom, who taught me so much of what I know. I was so happy to finally share my work in person.
Another happy moment from my first market stall. Having my mom by my side, surrounded by all the things we love to make, was an amazing feeling. I'm so grateful for her support on this journey.
Posing proudly at our stall. You can see some of my macrame wall hangings in the background, along with all the smaller accessories on the table. It was a dream come true to have everything displayed like this.
Here I am, arranging some of the macrame coasters and baskets on our table. Every little detail of the display was so exciting to put together. It was a wonderful experience connecting with people who appreciate handmade crafts.
A candid shot of me at the market, probably fussing over the placement of my keychains. I wanted everything to be just right. You can see the little baskets I used to display all the custom embroidered keychains.
A close-up of my market table, filled with handmade goodies. You can spot some crochet granny square pieces, my 'Golden Girl' bag, and baskets filled with coasters and other small fiber art items.
About Meet the Maker & My Journey
When you order a custom piece, I am usually sitting with my black cat Binnu, working on the knots while listening to my favorite music. Because everything is truly handmade, custom commissions take time to perfect, so I recommend reaching out about two weeks before you need your gift or decor piece so we have plenty of time to get every detail right.
My journey started simply enough. I learned crochet and embroidery from my mom when I was ten, but it was the quiet of the pandemic that really pulled me back into fiber art. Macrame started as a way to manage anxiety, and it quickly turned into something I just couldn't stop doing. Now, my home in Mumbai is pretty much always covered in yarn, thread, and knots.
Making things by hand is slow, but that is exactly why I love it. Whether I am knotting macrame wall hangings, stitching custom keychains, or crocheting handbags, the process is my therapy. I don't follow mass-production rules because I want every piece to carry that personal touch.
Recently, I finally did my first market stall, and it was such an exciting milestone. Seeing people touch the crochet florals, pick up the macrame coasters, and ask about the 'Golden Girl' bag made all those hours of knotting worth it. It was a dream come true to share this space with my mom, who taught me the ropes all those years ago.
If you are looking for custom embroidered keychains for a bulk event, a one-of-a-kind crochet tote, or some nature-inspired earrings, I am usually open for commissions. My style is a bit whimsical, very handmade, and always made with a lot of heart. Just send me a message and we can chat about what you have in mind.
