About Creative Techniques: Action & Levitation
To pull off a levitation shot like a floating burger, I don't just snap one photo. I shoot individual elements separately—the bun, the patty, the lettuce—using wires and skewers for precision, then combine them in post-production. Because this requires a controlled studio setup and careful rigging, these are best suited for planned hero content rather than on-the-spot menu updates.
Food photography is often static, but adding motion makes the viewer feel the texture and taste. Whether it is a drizzle of honey, a splash of milk into coffee, or a levitating burger, these details separate a standard menu photo from a campaign-ready asset.
The Science of Action Shots
Being a data scientist helps me approach photography with a systematic mindset. Freezing liquid splashes, dustings of cocoa, or pouring tea requires high-speed sync lighting and strict shutter speed control. I do not rely on luck; I rely on repeatability. We will test the pour or the drop multiple times until the timing is perfect and the splash is captured exactly where it looks best.
Levitation: The Impossible Shot
For levitation or complex composite images, the work happens in two stages:
- The Build: We rig your product using food-safe supports and skewers. I shoot multiple layers to ensure every ingredient is sharp and perfectly positioned.
- The Edit: In post-production, I remove every wire and support, blending the layers for a clean, gravity-defying final image.
