Yoga is far more than physical exercise; it is a sacred discipline. Through these stories, I share the mythological origins of each asana, helping you connect your practice to the timeless wisdom of our traditions.

Simhasana, the Lion Pose, is dedicated to Narasimha, the man-lion incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This powerful pose, which involves a forceful exhale and roar, helps release tension and embodies the fierce courage of the deity.

In a posture of reverence before a sacred Shiva Lingam, I connect with the origins of yoga. My workshops are steeped in this ancient tradition, viewing yoga not just as exercise, but as a profound spiritual discipline or 'sadhana' for harmonizing body, mind, and spirit.

This is Trivikramasana, a challenging standing pose that honors Lord Vishnu's incarnation as Vamana. Each asana I teach carries a story, and understanding these mythological roots adds a deeper layer of meaning and purpose to our physical practice.

Anantasana is named after Ananta, the celestial serpent upon whom Lord Vishnu rests. This reclining pose teaches us to find relaxation and stability simultaneously, reflecting the cosmic balance maintained by Vishnu.

Virabhadrasana III, or Warrior III, is named after the fierce warrior Virabhadra, an incarnation of Shiva. This pose cultivates the harmony, balance, and power of a righteous warrior, improving posture and building agility in body and mind.

About Yoga & Mythology: The Stories of the Asanas

When you practice with me, we do not just hold poses; we explore the Sthala (place) and Katha (story) behind them. For instance, in Anantasana (Vishnu’s Couch Pose), I teach you how to use a simple strap or belt to maintain stability if your reach is limited, allowing you to focus on the breathing rhythm rather than just the physical stretch. This approach bridges the gap between ancient philosophy and your daily physical capacity.
