In Bengaluru, the biggest challenge with terrace gardens is managing slab weight and waterproofing. When I set up your space, I don't just place plants; I use a layer of drain cells and lightweight coco-peat mixes to protect your roof while ensuring your plants stay healthy. It is about building a garden that lasts without causing dampness or structural issues in your home.
Building a garden is not just about aesthetics; it is about working with the climate and your specific space. Over the last 8 years in Bengaluru, I have learned what survives our summers and what needs shade.
My Approach to Gardening
- Balcony Makeovers: If you have limited space, I focus on vertical gardens and railing planters to maximize every square foot. We use a mix of air-purifying foliage like Snake Plants and Areca Palms, along with seasonal flowers to keep it bright.
- Terrace Kitchen Gardens: For those who want to grow their own food, I set up edible gardens using high-quality HDPE grow bags. This keeps the load off your roof slab while allowing you to harvest fresh chillies, tomatoes, and herbs year-round.
- Zero-Maintenance Options: If you do not have the time to water plants daily, I install high-density artificial grass and UV-resistant vertical garden panels. These look realistic and require zero upkeep.
