The Art of the Shot: Wildlife Photography & Perspective
See the world through my lens—from experiments with monochrome textures to the golden hour light that changes how we perceive Mumbai’s hidden wildlife.
Where does my passion take me? From getting soaked in streams to waiting hours for a single shot, this reel shows the lengths I go to for wildlife photography and filmmaking.
A glimpse into my wild life. This video compiles moments of me as a photographer, rescuer, and educator, showing the different hats I wear in my mission to document and protect wildlife.
The only place I can truly be myself is in the forest. This reel captures the joy and thrill of being in nature, from searching for scorpions to filming venomous snakes.
It's all out there. A short, meditative reel showing the peace and beauty I find when I am out in the field, camera in hand.
Being in nature is where I find my peace. This video shows me and a friend birdwatching, a simple activity that brings immense happiness and clears the mind.
Documenting an endemic Ceropegia Vincifolia flower in the Western Ghats. This unique plant traps insects for pollination, not to eat them. Nature is full of such amazing stories.
A juvenile Hanuman Langur soaking up the golden morning light. Photography is all about light, and being in the right place at the right time is key to capturing magical moments like this.
A Hanuman Langur looking up, surrounded by the green fields of Gujarat. For me, World Wildlife Day is every day I get to spend in nature, telling their stories.
A minimalist shot of a Hanuman Langur in a tree, captured during the golden hour on my phone. It proves that with the right light and composition, any camera can create a beautiful image.
A grasshopper on a leaf, captured in monochrome. Black and white photography helps me focus on contrast, highlights, and shadows, elements often missed in color photos.
About The Art of the Shot: Technique & Perspective
I don't stage my shots, and I never compromise on ethics for a frame. Most of the images here were taken while waist-deep in forest streams or waiting hours for a subject to enter the perfect light. If you are looking for high-retention social media content or a serious documentary, I bring that same field-tested patience and technical precision to every project I take on.
Photography and wildlife cinematography are not just about owning the right gear; they are about understanding the behavior of the animal and anticipating the moment. My approach is rooted in fieldcraft. Whether I am using a 90mm macro lens to capture the textures of an insect or a 400mm telephoto to document a langur without causing it stress, the goal is always to keep the subject comfortable and natural.
The Technical Side
I work primarily with Sony Alpha and Canon systems because they offer the reliability I need when I am out in the field for days. I prioritize 4K resolution and high frame rates for my cinematography work, ensuring that every movement of a snake or bird is crisp. You will notice that I often shoot in monochrome for specific subjects. This is a deliberate artistic choice to strip away color and force the viewer to engage with contrast, shadow, and light.
Ethics in the Field
There is a misconception that wildlife photography requires lures or setups. I believe the opposite. My best work happens when I am a silent observer. I rely on my background as a rescuer to track animals safely. When I film a documentary or a social media series, I apply these same ethics. We are guests in their world. If a shot is going to stress an animal, I simply do not take it.

Karan Solanki
I'm Karan. I grew up with snakes in my backyard and a camera in my hand, learning from my dad how to respect the wild long before I ever learned how to frame a shot. Whether I am filming in the Western Ghats or the local wetlands, my goal is always the same: capture the truth of the animal, not just the aesthetic.
