The Craftsmanship: From Raw Stone to Sacred Art
Every painting starts as raw, semi-precious stone. I crush them by hand to create textures and colors that chemical paints simply cannot match. This is the process behind my Jaipur heritage work.
The vibrant colors in my paintings come directly from the earth. This is Red Aventurine, a natural semi-precious stone I use for its warm hues and its association with energy and creativity. I crush these stones by hand, ensuring every artwork is made with authentic, natural materials, not chemical paints.
About The Craftsmanship: From Raw Stone to Sacred Art
The texture you see in these images is not brushwork. I use varying grades of crushed stone, from fine dust for delicate facial features to coarser granules for jewelry, and layer them using an industrial-grade adhesive. This manual process ensures the colors do not fade, and the relief effect remains crisp on your wall for decades.
Creating a gemstone painting is a meditative process that demands patience. It begins with selecting stones like Red Aventurine for its warm energy, Malachite for vibrant greens, and Lapis Lazuli for deep blues. Unlike traditional painters who use synthetic pigments, I rely solely on the natural color and light refraction of these minerals.
The Process
- Design and Outlining: Every piece starts with a precise outline on a glass or acrylic base.
- Stone Preparation: I crush the semi-precious stones by hand into specific grades. Fine powder creates the base colors, while coarser shards are used to highlight jewelry or textures in clothing.
- Manual Placement: Using specialized tools, I apply each grain individually to the adhesive layer. This is not a fast process, but it is the only way to achieve the depth and gradient effects seen in these works.
- Sealing and Framing: Once dry, the piece is sealed to prevent stone shedding. It is then mounted in a traditional frame, designed to complement the weight and grandeur of the artwork.
Because these are natural stones, they behave differently than paint. They catch light, creating a subtle, shifting brilliance as you move around the room. Whether you are choosing a small 8x10 tabletop piece or a large royal-sized centerpiece, you are receiving a work made from the earth itself.
