About this collection
You might wonder why a single painting takes so long to finish, but it comes down to the layering process. Every step—from the traditional muck work that builds up the relief of the deity, to the careful placement of each individual Jaipur stone—is done entirely by hand without shortcuts. When you look closely at these pieces, you are seeing the unique touch of our in-house artisans rather than a mass-produced product.
Our approach to creating Tanjore art is rooted in patience. The process begins by preparing the base, usually jackfruit wood or waterproof plywood, treated with Arabic gum and chalk powder to create a sturdy foundation.
Next comes the 'muck work' or embossing. This is the stage where the deity's jewelry, arches, and pillars are raised in 3D relief. This technique is what gives our work its depth and signature look. Once the relief is set, we apply genuine 22-karat gold foil to the ornaments. We do not use fake materials; this gold is real, verified, and designed to last for decades.
After the gold work, we embed semi-precious Jaipur stones into the muck. Finally, our artists hand-paint the vibrant colors onto the deity’s face and body. This stage requires a steady hand and a deep understanding of the iconography to get the expressions just right.
Because we have our own in-house team, we can handle specific requests. If you want a different dhoti color, a specific family deity, or a unique size, we can customize the painting to your vision without extra charges. Whether you choose a classic 22k gold piece for your pooja room or a fusion canvas for your modern living space, the commitment to our traditional techniques remains the same.
