Icons of Rajasthani Heritage: Handcrafted Gemstone Art

Our Icons of Rajasthani Heritage collection is a tribute to the Kishangarh school of art, most notably represented by the Bani Thani portrait. When you look at these pieces, you are seeing a technique that has been in our family since 1994.

We start with a clean surface, usually glass or acrylic, and sketch the outline. Instead of mixing synthetic colors, we select raw stones based on their natural energy and shade. We crush them to specific granular sizes, ensuring that the dark green of malachite or the deep red of garnet stays true to its source.

For large-format heritage scenes, such as royal processions or traditional court life, we incorporate gold foil accents to highlight jewelry and architectural details. This requires a different, more patient approach to layering, as the stones must hold their position without shifting. We then seal everything using industrial-grade adhesives to ensure the texture remains permanent and the colors do not fade over time.
