The Traditional Craft of Gemstone Painting
Every painting begins with raw minerals. Here is a look at the heritage process we use to transform natural semi-precious stones into spiritual art in our Jaipur studio.
These are raw pieces of Red Aventurine, a stone known for enhancing focus and creativity. I crush and process these authentic gemstones by hand to use as pigments, infusing every painting with their natural energy and color.
About The Making Of: Our Gemstone Craft
It starts with the stones. We source raw, semi-precious minerals like Garnet and Red Aventurine, then hand-crush and process them to create the pigment. Each fragment is meticulously set into place, a slow and deliberate method that ensures no chemical dyes are involved, only the inherent color and energy of the earth.
Our Process: From Raw Stone to Spiritual Art
Since 1994, our workshop in Jaipur has followed a strict methodology to ensure that every painting is an authentic representation of this traditional craft.
Selecting the Minerals We do not use synthetic pigments. Instead, we use semi-precious stones selected for their vibration and color.
- Red Aventurine: Chosen for its ability to enhance focus and vitality.
- Garnet: Utilized for its deep, rich hues associated with prosperity.
The Creation Sequence
- Material Preparation: Stones are cleaned and crushed by hand. The grade of the crush determines the texture; fine dust is reserved for delicate details like facial features, while larger chips provide depth to backgrounds.
- Application: We apply a binding layer to the base, then meticulously place each stone fragment. This is not a fast process. For our large-format statement pieces, this can take weeks of continuous work.
- Sealing: Once the stone work is complete, the painting is sealed behind glass or acrylic. This protects the stones from dust and oxidation, ensuring the colors remain vivid for decades.
Why Authenticity Matters Many modern decorative items use chemically dyed quartz. At Jitesh Arts, we maintain the integrity of the original stone. When you look at our pieces, you are seeing the natural refraction of light against the mineral, which creates a shimmer that synthetic prints cannot replicate. Whether it is a compact deity piece for your desk or a large 30-inch shrine painting, the intent remains the same: to create a focal point of spiritual energy for your home or meditation corner.
