Ball control is the difference between a bench warmer and a match winner. At my academy, we drill the fundamentals until they become instinct.

Even our little champs learn to control the ball from day one. This young player is practicing his first dribbling steps at the academy.

About Mastering the Ball: Dribbling & Control

We don't do fancy tricks just for show. In every session, I make players run cone-weaving drills while defenders put them under constant pressure. You won't just learn to hold the ball; you will learn to protect it, shield it, and turn away from a tackle in seconds.

If you want to play at the highest level, you have to be comfortable with the ball at your feet. Most academies skip the boring stuff, but that is where the game is actually won. At Indraprastha, we start with simple 'pass-and-go' movements, but quickly escalate to game-speed dribbling under pressure. I force players to train on artificial turf to keep the pace fast, and then move them to dirt tracks to master control on uneven surfaces. It is not about how many moves you know; it is about having the ball glued to your boots when a defender is charging at you. For the younger kids, we start with fundamental touch exercises, but for our Elite Performance players, it is all about tactical dribbling—knowing when to hold, when to release, and how to create space for teammates. No shortcuts here. If you cannot control the ball under pressure, you cannot play in my team.
