A Peek Into My Calligraphy Process & Studio
Ever wonder how that perfect watercolor wash or gold foil edge comes to be? Step into my studio to see the tools, the techniques, and the satisfying practice behind every keepsake I create.
This is one of the most satisfying parts of my process: laying down a watercolor wash. Watching the pigment flow and blend on the paper is so soothing. This wash became the background for a set of custom bridesmaid cards.
I'm often asked about the materials I use, so I created this video reviewing a new journal. I tested various pens, inks, and paints to see how the paper holds up. It's a behind-the-scenes look at how I choose the right tools for my projects.
For Halloween, I decided to try a nib that had been sitting in my collection for years. This video shows me creating the word 'Spooky' in a classic script with red ink, demonstrating the versatility and fine lines possible with pointed pen calligraphy.
A little bit of gold makes everything feel more magical. This short video shows my process of applying gold foil to the edges of bridesmaid cards. This technique adds a touch of luxury and is one of my favorite details to include in wedding stationery.
About My Creative Process
Before I ever pick up a pen for your wedding or event stationery, I spend time testing my tools. Whether it is finding a journal that does not bleed or waiting for the precise drying time on a gold foil edge, I insist on knowing exactly how my materials will behave. When you hire me, you are not just getting a hand-lettered tag; you are getting a piece created with supplies I have personally vetted for quality and permanence.
The Science Behind the Shimmer
My process is rooted in a lot of trial and error. People often ask why I spend so much time on the 'behind the scenes' work, but to me, the craft is just as important as the final product. When I work with Dr. Ph. Martin’s iridescent inks or wax seals, I am looking for a specific flow that only comes from knowing your equipment.
How I Approach Your Keepsakes
- Material Selection: I do not believe in 'one size fits all' paper. If we are using wood slices or acrylic blocks for place cards, I test the ink adhesion first to ensure it will not smudge.
- The Watercolor Flow: Many of the custom bridesmaid cards I make feature watercolor washes. I layer these carefully, waiting for each wash to settle so the colors blend naturally without muddying.
- Gold Foil Details: This is my favorite part. I use hand-applied gold leaf to create those deckle edges you see in my gallery. It is a slow, tactile process that adds a heavy, luxurious feel to simple paper.
My Philosophy
I believe in Progress over Perfection. When I am scribing a name or a poem in English, Hindi, or Gurmukhi, I am not trying to make it look like a machine printed it. I want you to see the human hand behind the script. Whether you are in Bengaluru or further afield, I treat your event stationery like I would a personal gift for a friend. We will brainstorm together, play with color themes, and I will ensure every wax seal and ribbon binding is placed with intention.
