Luxury Residential Lighting Design
Light is the jewellery of architecture. I create nighttime identities for homes using precise, layered lighting techniques that emphasize your home's unique form.
A closer look at the 'Kohinoor' residence, where warm-toned lighting accentuates the rich textures of the facade. This architectural lighting design ensures the home feels as grand and detailed at night as it does during the day.
A dusk view of a residence in Panchkula, designed with architect Subash & Associates. The lighting scheme balances the interior glow with exterior accent lighting, including uplights on the boundary wall landscaping, to create a cohesive and layered visual experience.
This is an in-progress shot of a home in Panchkula, showing the initial effect of the exterior lighting design. The linear LED profiles and downlights are strategically placed to define the structure's modern, cantilevered forms.
Another angle of the Panchkula residence, showcasing how the vertical linear light and the horizontal roofline light work together. This approach adds dynamism and emphasizes the architectural geometry.
The lighting for the residence of the CEO of Lally Motors. The design uses subtle ground-level uplighting and a continuous wash of light along the top of the facade to create an understated yet powerful effect on the modern structure.
Even functional spaces like a driveway and parking area are an opportunity for thoughtful lighting design. Here, we used recessed downlights to provide safe, ample illumination while maintaining a clean, sophisticated aesthetic that complements the home's architecture.
About Luxury Residential Lighting
When you work with me, we start with precise Dialux simulations before a single light is installed. This means you see exactly how the light will wash over your stone cladding or trace your roofline, ensuring the finished result matches the vision we discussed on day one. We don't guess; we design.
Defining Your Home at Night
Many think exterior lighting is just about adding brightness. I see it as building a second architecture that comes alive only after sunset. Whether it is a modern villa in Panchkula or a residence in NCR, the goal is to define the structure, not just flood it with light.
My Technical Approach
We use specific lighting layers to create depth and drama:
- Wall Grazing: By placing lights close to textured surfaces like brick or stone, we highlight the character of the material through shadow and light.
- Linear Profiling: We trace the rooflines and cantilevers with linear LEDs to emphasize the home's geometry and scale.
- Uplighting: Used strategically on columns and trees to add vertical layers and volume to your garden and facade.
The Process
Design is only half the battle. My team includes engineers and architects because lighting must be technically sound to last. We focus on IP ratings to ensure fixtures withstand the elements, and we provide electrical load charts so your wiring is planned correctly from the start. We typically include up to 5 site visits for full projects, where we check the conduit marking and perform final focusing at dusk to ensure the light hits exactly where it should, eliminating glare and ensuring your home looks sharp from every angle.
